Sometimes being a pushy broad pays off

The other Ladies… and I had a Google+ hangout the other night and I realized I’d never told this story for you folks. Forgive me for being lazy, but I wrote it up for Uni-Watch a few years ago, so I’m going to just post that test. I was using the Uni angle there, so I included quite a few pictures of the gear I received.

This content was originally posted on uni-watch.com in 2008. Link here.

I went to college in New Orleans, which was the site of Super Bowl XXXVI in 2002. A few months prior to the game, I learned that they were hiring security personnel to work during the weeks leading up to the Super Bowl, with a chance to work at events on gameday and possibly even at the game itself. I don’t exactly project the kind of imposing presence that security people usually have (I’m 5’4″ on a good day), but it sounded cool, so I applied and ended up getting hired.

I was there: US Cellular Field

Due to the wonders of Interleague (and my boyfriend’s aunt that lives in Chicago) we were able to knock another stadium off our list the weekend after we were in Minneapolis when we saw the Brewers play the White Sox on Chicago’s South Side.

Can we just go ahead and accept that I’m always going to call this stadium Comiskey? “The Cell” is a stupid nickname and US Cellular Field is too long. Plus, corporate naming is dumb (Et tu, Barclay’s Brooklyn?)

(Additionally, we have a US Cellular Arena here in Milwaukee which is called The Cell, leading to too much lame confusion)

Comiskey is super-accessible via the El, both the red and green lines are within a few blocks. The aunt had planned on us taking the red line, but we entered a station downtown that the red didn’t run through. Luckily, a nice man told me we didn’t have to go to another station, but could just hop on the green line.

I was there: Target Field

I think I’ve mentioned before that we try to visit one out-of-town MLB Ballpark every summer. Since I’m spoiled and got to spend a week in Italy, this summer’s trip had to be a bit closer to home. A weekend jaunt to Minneapolis to see some of the bf’s college friends while simultaneously checking out the Brewers and Twins during Interleague seemed like a great excuse.

It’s about a six hour drive from Milwaukee to Minneapolis, so we headed up Friday morning and drove home Sunday afternoon, since I have class on Monday

Take Us Out to the (Basket)Ball Game: The Ladies… Do Madison Square Garden

I almost didn’t make it to Wednesday’s Knicks-Hornets game.  First, I had it down on my calendar for Thursday.  Then there was the massive sinus attack that had me spending most of Wednesday afternoon lying flat on my back to keep my head from spinning. At 5:30, I was convinced my immune system had betrayed me. Luckily, the decongestant finally kicked in about half an hour later and I began to feel, if not perfectly healthy, at least capable of sitting upright and watching basketball for a few hours.

It was definitely worth it.  I had been to Madison Square Garden before, but never for a basketball game.  And particularly not a basketball game featuring Amare (over there on the left), Chris Paul, the newly arrived Carmelo, and a surprise mystery guest.  More pictures and details after the jump!

I Was There: The Ladies… do the Rose Bowl!

In a wonderful surprise, my boyfriend got us Rose Bowl tickets for Christmas. Round trip airfare was outrageous, but we had family who needed to get a car from Milwaukee to LA, so, intrepid folks that we are, we signed on for the 30-odd hour drive, bought one-way tickets home from LA (much more reasonable) and were in for attending the 2011 Rose Bowl.

Despite the Badgers losing, it was an awesome experience. I got to put my feet in the Pacific Ocean, see Hollywood and Highland, Grauman’s Chinese Theater and the Hollywood sign, eat an In and Out Burger and see a smog-free Los Angeles.

The game itself was fun, close and somewhat frustrating. Wisconsin was unable to get any defensive pressure, they inexplicably went for a pass play on a two-point conversion that would have tied the game when the run game had been effective all day, and there were too many dropped balls. Despite some sloppy play, they were in the game the whole way, which is all a fan can ask for. It was a great game to watch.

We got up about 5:30 am on gameday to make it to Pasadena for the Rose Parade. Thanks to a hookup, we parked within two blocks of the parade route and were able to stand right behind a row of chairs for a perfect view of the parade.

I Was There: The Ladies… Do The Winter Classic

Hello, Ladies… readers! I know it’s been awhile since you’ve seen a post from me, but I’m back in full force and bringing you some hockey, of course!  I was lucky enough to be able to purchase Winter Classic tickets for the Capitals vs. Penguins game in Pittsburgh on New Year’s Day.  As a loyal Caps season ticket holder, I decided to make the purchase, book the hotel and make the trek to Western PA.

Make the trek with me after the jump to read all about my trip (and I promise some pictures of hot guys).

I Was There: The Ladies… Do New Meadowlands Stadium

Yes, I know it’s just exhibition time and the games don’t really count for anything. But when this Buffalo loving Lady had the opportunity to check out the new Jets/Giants digs without it being -20° out, I obviously jumped. Here is a (almost literally) bird’s eye view and review of the fabulous new stadium from last Friday’s Jets game against Washington (which started as a snooze, looked as if it may end in a win, and ended in a 16-11 loss for NY).

I was there: Ladies… do Coors Field

The boyfriend and I took at trip to Denver in Mid-June to follow the Brewers and because I’d never been. We hiked in Rocky Mountain National Park, drove up Mount Evans, spent some time in Boulder and watched two baseball games.

Sadly, the Brewers lost both the games we went to and won the game we decided to forgo in favor of Rocky Mountain National Park. But the trip was worthwhile to check another stadium off my list.

We’re ready for some football: The Ladies… do Molson Stadium

Molson Stadium

Stade Molson in the heart of downtown Montreal (Photo: Lady Bee)

While we’re still a few weeks away from the start of the NFL 2010 season, the CFL season is in full swing. I recently has a chance to take in my first ever CFL game a few weeks ago when the Grey Cup Champion Montreal Alouettes hosted their home opener against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (and yes, I meant to post this last week but life got in the way. So sorry.)

Follow me after the jump for the lowdown on Percival Molson Stadium.

The Reveal! Name That Booty – Mets Edition

This past Monday, I treated you all to a little taste of the Mets/Cubs game through Buffalita’s camera lens and challenged you to name those booties.  I’m quite impressed with how people did (though SOME people refused to put their guesses on the correct platform and left them on Facebook…), but I am glad that I was able to stump nearly everyone on Booty #1! The reveal is after the jump… Continue reading

Name That Booty – Mets Edition!

So this post will somewhat serve a double purpose – it’s a bit of  ‘I Was There’ bragging rights, as I was lucky enough to find myself in the best seats I’ve had yet at Citi Field on April 21st (which before this weekend was their last loss prior to the 8 game streak), but you can always trust your author to really focus in on what really matters: baseball booties.  I found myself photographing every member of the Amazins, and as one would think with seats just behind the 3rd base line dugout, you’re going to get a lot of booty photos just given the fact that we have a good number of right handed batters. Games Mistress gave me the wonderful idea of what to do with said booty photos, so this week, I shall be playing a little game with you all – name that booty!  I’ll post the answers this Friday.

(Disclaimer: My camera is getting a little old and tired, so some booties are spectacular and in focus, while others came out a tad grainy. Apologies!)

I Was There: Opening Day Edition

On a beautiful April day in Cleveland, Ohio I had the privilege and fortune of attending my very first opening day.   The fans in their new team gear, the smell of grilling flesh, the way the afternoon sun sparkles on the fresh outfield – I could not have been happier.  Apparently, this was the first time in years where the city of Cleveland wasn’t covered in snow for opening day, so I feel rather like a good luck charm!

Immediately I was reminded of a very simple truth – there is nowhere on the planet I’d rather be between the months of April and October – than a baseball stadium.

I was also reminded of a few not so beautiful things about baseball season, and that’s what I’ll be sharing here.

Hockey Night with the Ladies…: Flames and Pens at the Saddledome

Saddledome

Welcome to the hockey version of our ever-popular “Take Us Out To The Ball Game” series.

As I recently mentioned, I made my first ever visit to the western part of my vast homeland. This visit included my first ever live NHL experience. More on that after the jump.

But first, a special shout-out to my new favourite city, Vancouver! Calgary was alright – I can’t fault any city with a Bath and Body Works. But oh, how I love Vancouver and its lush mountains, coastal scenery, Granville Island Market and sushi! I would live there tomorrow, if it weren’t for that whole outrageous real estate situation. Oh, and the uprooting of my family. They’d be pissed.

Oh yeah, so I went to this hockey game…

Hump Day Hottie: Andre Ethier

Ok, so the Dodgers are currently down 3-1 to the Phillies in the NLCS, and I’m afraid I won’t get to see Andre Ethier again until March.  So this post is basically happening to keep Andre’s hotness fresh in our memories.  Ahh, what a season we’ve had Andre.  Hopefully the boys in blue can pull out the win tonight so we can ogle Andre a wee bit longer. *le sigh*

So if you, like me, will miss seeing the pretty that is Mr. Ethier, take a trip with me after the jump.

I Was There: Bills vs. Jets, 16-13

After the win!!

It’s no secret: your writer is a big Bills fan. While I’m not super proud of the way they’ve been playing as of late, especially not against the Jets yesterday, I can’t act like I’m not excited that they finally won!

Bills Jets 10.18.09

In honor of the fact that I endured what felt like winter already to watch this ridiculous display, here is a realistic rather than “reporty” post dedicated to photos and highlights of this, um, “game.” (Please note that the photos are from quite far away, as our seats were up high and out of the wind thankfully, so no good booties this week) Continue reading

Fail.

Whatever Rhoden is smoking, he’s welcome to share.

Still, what Major League Baseball needs is a great World Series, a Series for the ages. And with all due respect to those two other potential matchups, it’s a Yankees-Dodgers World Series that could take the game back to its roots at a time when baseball desperately needs to recover a portion of the trust, if not the innocence, that it has lost in the steroid era.

Really.

Huh.

Interesting.

Very.

Look, we’re not naive. We know someone on every team, if not most uber-successful players, at least dabbled in PEDs. Ramirez was dumb enough to get caught, and Rodriguez was dumb enough to think that because MLB promised to destroy the 2004 test results they actually meant it. Ramirez served his time, and Rodriguez got to eat crow in front of the whole nation. It’s over.

But baseball needs to be saved from itself and the whole steroids mess with…a World Series featuring players who featured in two of the biggest steroid-related stories of the last twelve months? That makes the kind of sense that’s not.

You know what would save baseball from itself and the whole steroids debacle? A steroids testing and punishment program with teeth. A great series between teams who have figured out how to play small ball and long ball. Hell, just give me some good baseball.

But this? Laughable example of head-up-your-ass New York homerism at best, whitewashing the serious offenses of the steroid era at best.

Holy S*** I Was There: Jeter hits #2,722

Photobucket This past spring, I purchased via StubHub two tickets for Section 208 of Yankee Stadium for the September 11th game against the Orioles. As you recently learned, this would be my first live Major League ball game in more than 15 years, and my first ever Yankees game.

I had no idea at the time that I would be witness to a moment in Yankees history.

If you feel a wave of nausea washing over you, you may prefer to read this (and believe me, I agree – Mauer is more MVP-worthy). The rest of you can deal with my swooning after the jump.

This (Half) Week in Pitching

Isnt it lucky his parents didnt opt for the Zach or Zac spellings?

Good thing his parents didn't opt for the "Zach" or "Zac" spellings.

My brother and I were discussing the other day how it’s hard to pay attention to baseball in August, when half the teams are out of the playoff hunt already but the really meaningful division deciding games are still a few weeks off.  This week a selection of MLB starters took it upon themselves to call our attention back from NFL training camp, impending fantasy football drafts, and Usain Bolt.  Three days in awesome pitching, after the jump.

Take Us Out to the Ball Game: The Ladies…do Richmond County Bank Ballpark

rcbballpark

I don’t know any baseball fan that doesn’t love going to minor league games. When you really think about it, what’s not to love? The tickets are so much cheaper than professional games, as are the food and drinks. They are also really entertaining. There is always something going on in between innings; they are extemely fan friendly. Last night I went to Richmond County Bank Ballpark, home of the Staten Island Yankees. I only spent $16 and that included the tickets, soda, a chicken sandwich, and a free hat. For all that at Yankee Stadium, I would have broken the bank. Keep reading to find out why if you ever find yourself in Staten Island (I know it doesn’t seem likely, but it could happen), you should definitely check out a game at Richmond County Bank Ballpark. I Was There: Showdown in Chinatown

Subtitle: How I Endured Rain, Crowds, Loudmouth Arsenal Fans, and a Forgotten Wallet to Take Pictures of Steve Nash Through A Chain Link Fence

The pictures do get better. Mostly.

About a year ago, thanks to a tip from Henry Abbot, I wandered a few blocks down from my work to watch Steve Nash,  Thierry Henry, and a number of other NBA and soccer stars play a charity soccer match in a tiny park in Chinatown.  It was so entertaining, I decided to do it again.

Love Match: The Ladies… do Wimbledon!

In honor of the current fortnight of tennis being played, I thought I would do a review of my trip to Wimbledon last summer. I was lucky enough to be able to finally take my dream European vacation last July. One thing I knew when I started to plan my trip was that when I got to London, I was going to Wimbledon.

Originally my vacation started out as a week-long trip to London for the Championships at Wimbledon, but with the GBP being double that of the USD at the time, I opted to do a European tour instead. Our last stop was London. Unfortunately, the tour did not coincide with the tournament. But that was fine with me. I could still visit the hallowed grounds of the All England Club.

I was there (sort of): CWS championship series, Game 1

If you haven’t been watching the College World Series, tonight would be a good time to tune in to ESPN. Tonight is game two of a 3-game championship series between LSU and Texas, two teams who fully expect to play in Omaha every summer and who are generally fun to watch.

Take Us Out To The Ballgame: The Ladies…do the new Kauffman Stadium

Kauffman Stadium opened in 1973 in the middle of nowhere – as opposed to downtown – Kansas City. Royals Stadium, as it was known at the time, was different from its contemporaries because it was for baseball only, as God intended stadiums to be. Other pro sports cities were drafting their own one-way tickets to hell by building multi-sport facilities. Not Kansas City.

Take Us Out To The Ballgame: The Ladies…do Busch Stadium

St. Louis 010 I’ve been to a few stadiums around the country and other than my team’s home, Miller Park, I would put Busch Stadium in St. Louis on the top of my list.

The views are great, the stadium and field are beautiful, and everyone (well, most everyone) was accepting and nice.

Of course, Friday night’s game ended up getting rained out, so we ended up buying tickets to Saturday’s game, which was going to be our off day, over Craigslist on Friday night.

Special thanks to the very nice man who sold us his season tickets for  below face and emailed them to us. It couldn’t have gone smoother.

Take Us Out to the Ball Game: The Ladies…do New Yankee Stadium

New Yankee Stadium has been open for almost two months now, but I finally got to see it for myself this week. I was at the game Tuesday and Wednesday. I wasn’t happy when I first found out that they would closing down old Yankee Stadium and building a new one. But by this time I had pretty much come to terms with it. There was a new stadium whether I liked it or not. However, it was still really strange at first getting off the 4 train going to see the Yankees and it was at a different venue. I saw the Yankees play at the same place for the last 18 years. It was sad seeing the ballpark I ever saw my first game at looking like an empty, abandoned construction site. But enough about old Yankee Stadium. How about the new Stadium that cost a boat load of money to build

I Was There: Cal State Fullerton Hits Lots Of Home Runs

(Editor’s note: This was supposed to go up on the weekend. This is not your Monday morning post. Reschedule — or don’t — accordingly.)

And no, that title’s not an innuendo, because they beat my Bruins, dammit, and I don’t want to hear a word about how epically hard they pounded the ball in the first few innings. Observe:

Score by Innings R H E
---------------------------------------------
Cal State Fullerton. 021 020 000 1 - 6 9 0
UCLA................ 000 000 500 0 - 5 10 0
---------------------------------------------

So there you have it. Their first 5 runs were scored by the longball (which, by the way, some chicks certainly do NOT dig), and their last one scored on a sac fly. Here’s how that last run went down.

So Long, Farewell…

Well it’s time to say goodbye to the 2008-09 Washington Capitals.  It was a disappointing end to an exciting season.  After an insane circus of a series with the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Caps blew it in Game 7 with a 6-2 loss at home.  I was there and still am getting over the crushing loss. So I was thinking, what’s a good way to get over a great season that ended in a not-so-great way?  So I thought, I want to celebrate this team with a tribute…to their hotness!!  I’ve been told by some of our ladies that’s it’s totally unfair that my Caps are so hot!  So I’m sharing their hotness with you!

Your hot 2008-09 Washington Capitals…

Even the family dog roots for the other team.

This past Saturday, I was lucky enough to get a ticket to the Oklahoma-Oklahoma State football game.  This was actually my first chance to see a Bedlam game in person, and while I may have left a happy (and relieved) Sooner, the majority of my Cowboy faithful family were less pleased. Potential BCS and Big XII South titles be damned — this was about a year’s worth of family bragging rights.

I Was There: Mizzou Wins in Lincoln

Check out the Nebraska cheerleader smiling at the Mizzou touchdown.

This past weekend, I roadtripped to Lincoln, Ne. to see my beloved Missouri Tigers play the Nebraska Cornhuskers. We hadn’t won in Lincoln since 1978. Going into the game, we were ranked 4th, so we also had high hopes that the streak would be broken. My Tigers broke the streak and broke it well, winning 52-17. Even better, I ran into my fellow Lady, Miss Minda, a Nebraska gal.
