Hey foodie fans – I know it’s a little strange to see a Foodie Friday post on a Monday, but hear me out: Beer Cheese Cupcakes with Bacon Cheddar Cream Cheese Frosting. Yup, you heard me. And since Mondays aren’t anyone’s favorite and cupcakes make everything better, and also in honor of Fat Tuesday being tomorrow, I thought I would share my new favorite recipe with you all that was a TOTAL SUCCESS for Super Bowl Sunday :)
So in case you didn’t hear, the Baltimore Ravens took the Super Bowl XLVII title, besting the San Francisco 49ers 34-31. Ray Lewis was emotional, Beyonce diva-ed it up, and there was a delightfully surprising break in play when the Super Dome lost power and everyone who cares about seeing the ads AND the game could take a nice breather and have a bathroom run. Since I didn’t have any emotional investment in the game either way (minus my being at a very close friend’s all Niners house), I’ll leave bragging rights to our own Raven. I, however, have been very invested and particular about my Super Bowl advertisements over the years, especially after working at a job that entailed pitching songs to be considered for use in these hilarities. This fine Monday morning, I bring you a round up of what I thought deserved notice in a slew of what was otherwise overwhelmingly dull.
Not to be such a negative Nancy on my first post back in quite some time, but really when you’re surrounded by the media treating this game like the joke that it is, I can’t really help it. Just from my initial evaluation from my own Facebook news feed (which I assure you is filled with plenty of sports fans), there were more people watching the SAG awards last night and mocking the Pro Bowl than actually watching it. Are we surprised? Has it always been such a joke? I decided to investigate…
Yeah yeah, so I might be a little stuck on Australian rugby players. But can you blame me? After being introduced to Kayne Lawton, I ended up on a two hour long tangent that led me to several other um, delightful looking young fellows, and given that it’s almost Christmas, I can’t not share this. Alright. I have a crush. I haven’t really been a big NBA fan, but after attending my very first game on December 7th at the shiny new Barclay’s Center to see the Golden State Warriors take the Brooklyn Nets down, I’ve decided that I both enjoy basketball and should pay closer attention. And after researching what basketball players are great AND hot, I discovered that I apparently have just a huge stupid little kid crush on Derrick Rose. I can’t be alone here.
Again. I reiterate. If there is a hot, shirtless Jewish male athlete, I will find him. Assuming you aren’t a Muay Thai buff, meet Israeli champion fighter (and sometimes model) Ilya Grad.
Water polo? Merrill who? Don’t worry, you can always leave it to your girl buffalita to find hot, shirtless Jewish athletes no matter what sport they play. Mr. Moses is the goalkeeper for the US Olympic water polo team who won silver at the 2008 Beijing games. Call it cheating if you must, but it’s too easy to find an unnecessary amount of half/mostly naked photos if an athlete plays a water sport. Just sayin’.
I’m pretty sure Tampa Rays outfielder Sam Fuld isn’t human. He has to be part flying squirrel for the way this man is able to field. I’m serious. Not only is he a bonkers ball player, but I find him, his scruff, and his baby blues to be quite irresistible. If you aren’t already a fan of The Legendary Sam Fuld, hopefully these next few shots will sway you…
Unless you’re a Giants fan (or happen to be an unfortunate Saints fan that saw last Sunday’s matchup), you might be wondering who on earth David Wilson is. Well, I’ll happily tell you – he’s a rookie running back for the Giants out of Virginia Tech who hasn’t really seen much action or field time in his first year. However, this past Sunday he not only broke the team record for all purpose yards in a single game (327) including 4 kickoff returns for 227 of those yards and one being a 97 yard return for a touchdown, but he also ran for 100 yards for 2 touchdowns, making him the NFC player of the week. Keep an eye on this one – not only is he hot on the field and extremely enthusiastic about backflips, he’s quite adorable (and rather ripped, I might add) off the field too.
Ok, ok – I know the Ladies… have already featured Becks as an Advent Calendar hottie back in 2009. But ever since my conversion and renewed interest in finding hot athletes that light the menorah with me, I was delighted to discover that Mr. Golden Balls has referred to himself as “half-Jewish” (grandfather was Jewish). So in honor of his recent final game with the LA Galaxy, I propose a compromise for re-featuring him for our other holiday special. I give you all shirtless David Beckham.

This just in – the NY Jets have rescued Tim Tebow from his rather dire situation with the now Manning-fied Broncos in a trade along with a seventh round pick, giving the Broncos both a fourth and sixth round pick. I’m pretty sure that at this early stage, I really don’t know what to say about a team that now has two questionable QBs of nearly the same age. So I’ll just put my feelings into song…

So I’m probably jumping the gun. But after the potential excitement of the Bills courting Robert Meachem only to hear soon thereafter that he signed a four year deal with the Chargers has made me a tad overly optimistic. Super Mario, please get on up here and help save the castle from Pokey Peyton and his potential Dolphins and Bowser Brady before the Bills go another ten years without a playoff appearance!!

Hope everyone out there had a very Merry Christmas yesterday! (and Happy Hanukkah for two more nights!) As I’m sure you noticed, the NFL treated Saturday – Christmas Eve – as if it were a regular Sunday filled with regular season football games, and we were treated to an extra Christmas present of Aaron Rogers and his Packers getting back on track with a Bears beatdown last night. (I believe my favorite Facebook comment from a friend last night was “I can’t believe McCarthy is making the Packers practice on Christmas.”) However, something was brought to my attention this morning that made the Packers-Bears game just a little better, and that is sweet vindication from this lady Green Bay fan:

Happy first night of Hanukkah, everyone! Following our now annual tradition of recognizing some of our favorite hunks in the sports world that will be lighting the first candle along with me tonight, I can personally promise that this year will be quite exceptional. Night 1’s hottie after the jump!
Now, obviously if I’m a Buffalo girl, then it should follow that I’m a Sabres fan. And trust me, I am. With a healthy hatred for the Maple Leafs, Flyers, Bruins, and especially the Rangers. However, I feel it’s a little unfair to hold a hatred for the other NY team given that I live here, they’re seldom a threat, and they have a pretty cute goalie! Little older, but that’s never stopped me – meet Islanders goaltender Nick DiPietro.
Continuing on my second year football men trend, I accidentally stumbled on this adorable gem in my photo research for yesterday’s ACoH Ryan Mathews. I have to be honest – I’m not really a Broncos fan, so I sadly missed wide receiver Mr. Eric Decker up until now. Now, I know what you’re thinking – hey Buffalita, why would your pick for the ACoH hottie today be a running back that somewhat stomped all over your beloved Bills yesterday? Well, for two reasons – it’s intra-conference so it doesn’t really mean much since they’ll only play each other once every few years (plus let’s be honest – I had a bit of a hard time Billeiving that my poor team could pull one off against a team whose record is a tad closer to 500 than ours). Plus, I figured I should show a little appreciation for one of the only useful running backs left on my fantasy team. Smell the bitter from there? Sure, maybe I’m a little bummed that without Peterson or Peyton Hillis for most of the season, my lineup was relatively useless. But at least I could count on cutie Mr. Ryan Mathews of the San Diego Chargers to keep my head afloat.
Well hello there! So sorry for my absence – I have missed reporting on the status of my beloved Bills and ogling gents across multiple sport lines to an unreasonable amount, but I am finally back! And what a great way to celebrate my new marriage to Mr. Buffalia (aka Hawk) then to jump right on in to the ACoH!

So admit it – your brackets are just as screwed up as mine are. Yeah, I know. Lots of upsets, lots of overtime, lots of surprises. But two of the bigger surprises came from the 8th seeded Butler and the young and admirable Brad Stevens, and 11 seed Virginia Commonwealth (Virginia where?) with their fearless leader – Shaka Smart. I was almost positive that the earlier Saturday game of this coming weekend would be Pitt vs. Kansas, especially when I was in 1000th place out of millions with ESPN’s bracket challenge after the first round and a half. Boy was I ever wrong. Thankfully, these two gentlemen make it very easy to feel good about rooting for the underdogs, and also make one of these final games very easy on the eyes. Let’s take a side-by-side look at our favorite hottie NCAA BBall coaches – one of them is guaranteed to be in the Championship Game, so regardless of Saturday’s results, which one wins Ladies… choice?
I’ll admit that I’m not very big in to Twitter – I’m not sure why, but it either feels like homework, or I end up feeling like I’m a little too self absorbed to really believe that my 61 followers truly care how I felt about that pizza sliceor what the weather is like in Manhattan from the window near my cubicle. After being reminded a few dozen times that today was apparently the 5th birthday of the little blue bird who started it all, I decided to pay closer attention to what’s out there and who’s tweeting. Newsflash, did you know that nearly everyone tweets? Jeez! Even if I did follow it, how do you sift through the crap and find some damn information?
I did, however, find a few nuggets of gold in this river of 140-character-or-less overflow, and do you know where I found them coming from? Athletes! Not only are athletes on Twitter, but they’re often freaking hilarious! This gave me an idea for something new that I’d like to try, and I definitely need reader feedback. Not exactly new news, but with the NBA trade mill in high gear before Thursday afternoon’s impending deadline, I had to show some support for the hometown team. The Knicks finally got Anthony; Anthony finally got the Knicks. But it didn’t come without one of the more complicated trade deals that I think I’ve seen. I reckon this trade might actually get me in to basketball – more on the gains and losses after the break…
It’s not often that we here at Ladies… will recognize the efforts of a pro cheerleader. But after seeing all of the recent buzz around Laura Vikmanis and learning that she is the cousin of a friend in the OH circle, it was pretty hard not to admire her moxie and help share her story with the sports world.
