In fact, it is advised to do both at the same time.  The other Ladies… and I have pulled together a Friday Foodie post of epic proportions. If you’re getting a bit bored of chili, we have several suggestions to ensure your Super Bowl Party guests won’t be pulling Manning Faces over the menu. Continue reading

NOT The Sweetest Hangover

Unlike my girl Diana, this is not the sweetest hangover – this is the WORST kind of hangover!

It’s not brought on by copious amounts of Yuengling and Makers Mark.

It’s not accompanied by the Stride of Pride.

It’s not cured by greasy food.

It’s not something that gets worse with age.

It’s a hangover that only comes with the harsh realization… football is OVER until Fall. Continue reading

In Which the Ladies Join In To The “Farewell Joe Morgan” Blog Circus

If you read this blog, you probably read many other sports blogs or internet sports related media, and you know that Tuesday, ESPN announced it was not renewing the contracts of its Sunday Night Baseball team, which meant to Twitter and Facebook enabled baseball fans everywhere, that Joe Morgan finally got fired.   And even if we here at Ladies were a bit too preoccupied with the jobs we actually still have this week to put up an instant response, we still couldn’t let an event sports fans have been waiting for for at least half a decade go by without comment.  Our thoughts below (and yours, hopefully, below that).

We Wait With Bated Breath

I’m sorry – the National’s game is SOLD OUT???  Did Ted Williams come back from the freezer to don a Nat’s jersey?

Seriously, if you’ve ever been to a Nat’s game, it’s a veritable ghost town – which is fine by me, I hate waiting in line for a beer!

Wonder Mullet… What Is The Secret of Your Power?

The Cincinnati Reds are rocking the NL Central, thanks in no small part to Bronson Arroyo.  Having just pitched a complete game and having 2 RBIs of his own, I’m wondering if there isn’t something magical going on with Arroyo.  Perhaps it’s that wonderful mound of business frontage, and party backage!

Happy Anniversary, Ladies…!

I would like to take this opportunity to wish a very HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to my fellow Ladies… – this week marks many of our one year anniversary when we joined the Ladies…family!  So to Lady Bee, Lady Liz, Crane, Maggie, Raven, THE Blonde Bomber, CuteSports, and Buffalita, here is our favorite set of abs popping out of a cake :)

Special thanks to Games Mistress and Miss Minda for inviting all of us to be a part of this family of lovely Ladies… and keeping things going between the two generations!

And another special thanks is in order to our readers – we couldn’t have done this without all of you, so thank you for your continued support – keep coming back for more, and here’s to another great year of sabermetrics, football booties, and much, much more!

I Was There: Opening Day Edition

On a beautiful April day in Cleveland, Ohio I had the privilege and fortune of attending my very first opening day.   The fans in their new team gear, the smell of grilling flesh, the way the afternoon sun sparkles on the fresh outfield – I could not have been happier.  Apparently, this was the first time in years where the city of Cleveland wasn’t covered in snow for opening day, so I feel rather like a good luck charm!

Immediately I was reminded of a very simple truth – there is nowhere on the planet I’d rather be between the months of April and October – than a baseball stadium.

I was also reminded of a few not so beautiful things about baseball season, and that’s what I’ll be sharing here.

Ohhhh… It’s A Lady!

When I read that Natalie Randolph was named, in early March, the new head coach for Washington’s Coolidge High Colts, a MALE varsity football team, I was a tad worried.  You see, while I am obviously all for the advancement of woman in sports and typically held male jobs, I don’t think it should happen, just because.

I’m kinda old school I guess. No matter what the job, I believe the person with the most to offer the position, should land the gig.  This may be an unpopular sentiment because of the fact that minorities and woman haven’t been given the same opportunities along the way to become the most qualified… And before you prepare to pelt me with whatever food you have laying around, hear me out.

Gimme Back Dat Filet O’ Fish

The preceding title has nothing to do with this post… but if that damn jingle must be stuck in my head all day, it must now be stuck in yours as well!

Back to the lecture at hand… There’s been a lot of focus and fuss made of curling at these Winter Olympics.  All around the world there intramural leagues forming and regular Joes believing they have a shot of winning gold and hearing their nation’s anthem. Or maybe their just in it for the crazy pants, who knows!

I contend that if curling is a sport worthy of the pomp and circumstance of the time honored tradition of Olympic competition… then sign spinning should be next!

How Sweet the Sting…

It’s been a little gloom and doom in the bomber household these past few days…

You see there was this semi-important professional sporting match on Sunday, and despite my best efforts of yelling and screaming at the tv, my boys did not come away with that Lombardi trophy.

While I hold no ill will towards those gents in black and gold, I can’t help but wallow in my loss.

It got me thinking about championships and fandom- more specifically what impacts us more, the wins or losses?

Advent Calendar of Hotness: Day 15

It’s shocking that it took me more than 5 seconds to make this pick.  How could I overlook one of the most delectable men in the NFL.  Thank God I was discussing the Dolphins this chilly December morn, jogged my memory right quick!

Here in all his beautiful glory… Jason Taylor!

The Ladies … Give Thanks

I am thankful both these men wear Cardinal red.

Games Mistress is thankful both of these men wear Cardinal red.

Happy (American) Thanksgiving from the Ladies!

While we’re thankful for family, friends, and the chance to stuff ourselves with food while in the company of said family and friends, we here at Ladies… are also thankful for what the sports world has given us over the past year.

resized_WS27611050511

So that happened… my boys in pinstripes won the World Series, Godzilla took home the MVP and all is right with the world.  It’s a bitter sweet feeling, harassing Sox fans since just hasn’t had the same feel.  Is it spring training yet???

But not to worry, I hopped in the kitchen, thought about football and got right back in the swing of things.

So today I bring you another delectable treat, perfect for your tail-gaiting and football spreads!

Friday Foodie… New York Edition with a Pumpkin Ale Showdown

While the NLCS got into full swing last night I’ve got my mind set on one thing… my boys in blue and the kick off of the ALCS.  In honor of my Bronx Bombers finally not pooping the bed in the post season for the first time in ages,  I’m here showing a little Friday Foodie love!

AL and NL Championship Series Predictions

I still can’t believe that the championships series are already here. But I’m certainly not complaining. October is the best sports month, and you can quote me on that one. The NLCS started last night and hopefully the ALCS will start later tonight. As long as the weather behaves. I’m particularly happy about the ALCS this year. The Yankees have actually made it out of the first round. Now there is just one problem: They have to face the Angels. The same team that they are NEVER able to beat. Well the Red Sox ALWAYS beat the Angels and we all know how that changed last weekend. So hopefully the Yankees can finally get over that hump. I know it’s stupid logic but let me have it. I’m scared about facing the Angels!

OK I am done with my rambling about the Yanks. Let’s take some time to congratulate the teams still in. And we ladies… will make some predictions. Continue reading

Filled with big blond guys who eat ivy and row boats

Watching the Ohio State/ USC game I was struck by two things…

1.  My beloved Buckeyes are not closers and will continue to break my heart in hyped up ball games.

2.  USC recruits Abercrombie models and turns them into NFL like football players.

While I despise USC, (thank you Washington for beating them last week) I, as do the other ladies around here, have a healthy appreciation for fine looking men.

Misery Loves Company… In Our Nation’s Capital

There is an understanding in my home state of Maryland, you either root for the Redskins, or you root for everyone else but the Skins. I’m a glutton for punishment, so I became a sad sap of a human, full equipped with Skins Starter jacket and a love of Joe Gibbs.  Follow me this week as we travel through the capital city of this great land, and the teams that almost seem like afterthoughts to professional sports.

Misery Loves Company… Lonestar Edition!

In this installment of our weekly exercise in the agony of defeat, we head south to Texas.  The heart of the Bible Belt, the home of Matthew McConaughey, Lance Armstrong, George Foreman, Nick Jonas, and the live music capital of the world; if the great fans of these teams can survive the Dust Bowl and bang bang McCoy, they can endure a few more years without championships!

Misery Loves Company… In The Land of Lincoln!

In my latest installment of “Misery Loves Company,” we head west from Ohio and land in the lovely state of Illinois.  Home of the first McDonald’s, Blagojevich, and Wayne and Garth, would more could these fine people want… how bout a few more rings!
