The NFL regular season is over. With Alabama winning the BCS National Championship game, college football won’t be back until next fall. For those of you who play fantasy football, a winner has already been decided. (Congrats to THE Blonde Bomber for winning the ladies… fantasy football!) But don’t be too sad. There is still plenty going on in the football world. There’s coaching changes in college football. New coaches in the NFL. And mostly importantly there’s the NFL playoffs!! The Cowboys remembered how to win in January (which didn’t make me very happy). The Patriots got slaughtered by the Ravens (which did make me happy). This weekend is a new set of games that will hopefully be more entertaining than the Wild Card games. (Admit it, aside from the Cards/Packers game, all those games were pretty boring.)

Advent Calendar of Hotness – Day 5
Advent Calendar of Hotness – Day 4
Yes, I’m alive. So I’ve been MIA for awhile; 7 classes will do that to you. But I have returned and I come with some hotness.
He may have some questionable taste in facial hair but Longoria is still a hottie.
First Season Fan: New York Knicks
I’m not the world’s biggest NBA fan. I have probably watched a total of 10 games my whole life. But the truth is, I never really gave it a full chance. Well this year is different. Baseball season is practically over. Football is only one full day and then one night a week. Having both hockey AND basketball during the weekday, should keep me entertained. I love college basketball so I figure if I give the NBA a real chance, I should like it as well.
AL and NL Championship Series Predictions
I still can’t believe that the championships series are already here. But I’m certainly not complaining. October is the best sports month, and you can quote me on that one. The NLCS started last night and hopefully the ALCS will start later tonight. As long as the weather behaves. I’m particularly happy about the ALCS this year. The Yankees have actually made it out of the first round. Now there is just one problem: They have to face the Angels. The same team that they are NEVER able to beat. Well the Red Sox ALWAYS beat the Angels and we all know how that changed last weekend. So hopefully the Yankees can finally get over that hump. I know it’s stupid logic but let me have it. I’m scared about facing the Angels!
OK I am done with my rambling about the Yanks. Let’s take some time to congratulate the teams still in. And we ladies… will make some predictions. Continue reading
Trash Talking With Twitter
It’s no secret that athletes love Twitter. And fans love that so many athletes are a part of Twitter. I’m sure for many people Ochocinco’s Twitter is a daily source of entertainment. Athletes use Twitter for anything and everything; most of the time it is all in good fun. But it seems that some are using their Twitter account to rant and do a little trash talk. Now, I’m not uptight and have no problem with a little bit of trash talk before a game. However, I do have a problem when it is so incredibly corny or just straight up wrong. I think that if any athlete is going to use their Twitter to talk a little smack about their opponent, they should really do a better job than these people.
The Top Five Games of the Week
Ah, football season is finally here! I think I speak for everyone when I say that it couldn’t have come soon enough. Preseason football is so boring. Watching starters play about one quarter does not feed my appetite for football. Also, this will be my first season playing fantasy football (wish me luck!), so that makes the start of the season that much more exciting. There are 13 games this Sunday and another two on Monday. Some should be entertaining, while others are sure to be a snooze-fest. Unless you’re a fan, you probably aren’t counting down the hours until the showdown between the Rams and Seahawks.
So without further ado, I present to you (in no particular order and with my completely biased opinion) the top five games of Week 1…
Excuse me Mr. McCoy, but you seem to have a little something on your face…
I am no expert when it comes to college football. This post has nothing to do with the athletic abilities of the Longhorns or their QB. This is all about the sweet stache Colt McCoy is sporting in the above picture. I think we all know what Colt did during the summer: tried his best to resemble a 70s porn star. All I can say is, Mission Accomplished! Supposedly the mustache was grown as some sort of team bonding. And sadly, by next week it will more than likely be gone.
OK, that stache is all sorts of awesome, and by awesome I mean creepy. Looking at that pic for too long scares me a bit. Here’s a pic of Colt when his face isn’t quite so hairy:

Sure he may look better without it but I think the stache adds character.
So tell us, which Colt do you prefer?
Take Us Out to the Ball Game: The Ladies…do Richmond County Bank Ballpark
I don’t know any baseball fan that doesn’t love going to minor league games. When you really think about it, what’s not to love? The tickets are so much cheaper than professional games, as are the food and drinks. They are also really entertaining. There is always something going on in between innings; they are extemely fan friendly. Last night I went to Richmond County Bank Ballpark, home of the Staten Island Yankees. I only spent $16 and that included the tickets, soda, a chicken sandwich, and a free hat. For all that at Yankee Stadium, I would have broken the bank. Keep reading to find out why if you ever find yourself in Staten Island (I know it doesn’t seem likely, but it could happen), you should definitely check out a game at Richmond County Bank Ballpark. Is It Football Season Yet?
If you haven’t noticed from the last couple of posts, the ladies cannot wait for football season to start. Training camp is in the full swing of things with the first preseason game coming this Sunday. But even still, real football has not started yet so it’s only natural that news is a little slow. The first game of the season is still over a month away. People are mostly grasping for stories to report on. So I have decided to sort out some of the more ridiculous, and entertaining, stories coming out of training camps. Enjoy! Take solace in knowing football season is almost here.
Hit and Run: With a Perfect Buehrle
So it was a busy week as baseball got back into the groove of things after the All Star break. There was a whole lot going on. Brand new division leaders, a naked Tony Bernazard, and to top it all off, a PERFECT GAME! More on all of this week’s happenings after the jump.
Tony Romo Makes Some Really Stupid Decisions

Sorry Dallas fans, this is by far my favorite Romo pic.
I am always conflicted about my feelings towards Tony Romo. I hate the Cowboys and I relish anytime he has a crappy game and they lose. However, as much as I try, I actually kind of like Romo. He seems like a genuinely decent guy. And I ALMOST feel bad for him at times. Of course never enough where I actually want to see him prove himself and win a playoff game. And God forbid, a Super Bowl. I shudder to think what the Cowboys fan base would turn into if they won six championships.
But this post isn’t about my love/hate relationship with Romo. This is about some of the ridiculous things Romo seems to do, including his latest decision.
The 2009 NBA Draft of Hotness
I am not a fan of the NBA. I have probably watched a total of 5 games in my entire life, but I absolutely love college basketball. It is much more competitive and entertaining. Also, there are a lot of hot guys to be found. (I am only 23 so I can still say that without being a total perv!) Last night was the NBA Draft. So that means that many players said goodbye to their college days and joined the pros. This also means that I will no longer know or care what is going on with them. (That’s a lie. There are quite a few players that I really like who were drafted last night. Next season might be the first year I genuinely care what’s going on in the NBA.)
OK, enough about college basketball being far superior to the NBA. Let’s move onto those hot guys. Having talent is really important and goes a long way in the actual draft, but it doesn’t get you far here. Blake Griffin may have been the number one pick last night (and rightfully so…boy is talented!), but he doesn’t make the cut in the Ladies… draft.
Now let the fun begin with the first pick…
American League vs. National League
By now interleague play is in full swing. A lot of people seem to have beef with it. I personally don’t mind interleague play. It gives fans a chance to see players/teams they don’t normally have a chance to. Also, it’s pretty entertaining to see some of those AL pitchers with a “deer-in-headlights” look on their face while at-bat.
Interleague is a chance to see how the AL and NL match up against one another; starting pitching, bullpen, hitting, defense, etc. Sure all that’s important, but we here at Ladies… want to focus on a more important issue: Which league has the hotter players?
Now to be fair I choose a player from each division. Let’s see how the leagues’ hotness match up in starting pitching, bullpen, infielders, and outfielders. Enjoy!
The Last Time Your Team Won it All: Baseball Teams
I got the idea for this post when I was talking to my friend about the last time the Yankees won the World Series. It’s almost going to be nine years, but nine years isn’t that long. If I ever complained about a nine-year World Series drought to a Cubs fan, I would more than likely get a smack in the face…and it would be completely warranted.
However, when I think back to where I was the 2000, it seems like ages ago. The last time the Yankees won it all I was a freshman in High School. It feels like I graduated from H.S. ages ago; forget about actually being a freshman. The bottom line is we all follow our team with one goal: to see them win it all at the end. Don’t get me wrong, you can still enjoy the season, but you are never fully satisfied unless your team is the last one standing. Unless you root for the Phillies, Red Sox or Cardinals, the last time your team won it all can seem like a lifetime ago.
So let’s take a little trip down memory lane and see what life was like the last time your team were World Champions. Sorry to all Washington, Milwaukee, Houston, San Diego, Colorado, Tampa Bay, Texas, and Seattle fans. You need to have won at least one to qualify.
Hit and Run: There is Still Hope in Cleveland Today
Things got a little scary for Cleveland this week. Their series against the Magic took an ugly turn when they fell 3 games to 1. The Nuggets gave the Lakers a run for their money but with a 3-2 lead, it looks like LA will find themselves in the finals once again. It is déjà-vu all over again for the Stanley Cup Finals as the Penguins and Red Wings face off for the second time in as many years. And amidst all the playoff fun this week, there was some baseball thrown in there as well.
Take Us Out to the Ball Game: The Ladies…do New Yankee Stadium
New Yankee Stadium has been open for almost two months now, but I finally got to see it for myself this week. I was at the game Tuesday and Wednesday. I wasn’t happy when I first found out that they would closing down old Yankee Stadium and building a new one. But by this time I had pretty much come to terms with it. There was a new stadium whether I liked it or not. However, it was still really strange at first getting off the 4 train going to see the Yankees and it was at a different venue. I saw the Yankees play at the same place for the last 18 years. It was sad seeing the ballpark I ever saw my first game at looking like an empty, abandoned construction site. But enough about old Yankee Stadium. How about the new Stadium that cost a boat load of money to build
Don’t Be That Fan
So I went to a baseball game last weekend and I realized something. While the majority of fans are cool and well behaved, obnoxious fans are inescapable. And they come in all shapes and sizes. They are the people that make you wonder, why are they even here? Baseball tickets are not cheap. Why come if you’re not even going to be caring about the game?
So I decided to make a little compilation of some of the fans you want to avoid while at the game, and the fans that you definitely do not want to be.
Little note about the pic choice: I have nothing against the Rays or their fans. But come on, I don’t think anyone needs to be told that is not a good look. The cowbell is bad enough but if I got stuck behind that fro, I would flip.
You Gotta Be Kidding Me!
I was watching TV last night, my laptop in front of me, trying to decide what to write about for my post today. Something funny, something interesting, something different…then the top of the ninth happened in the Yankee game. Forgive me, I promise not to make a habit of it, but I need to complain about the men in pinstripes for a little bit.
The First Month of Baseball
We are only into the second month of this young baseball season. We still have four more months of regular baseball and then another month of lovely October baseball. There is still plenty of time for those last place teams to crawl out of the basement. But still so much has already happened in just a short month. Some things aren’t too surprising: Albert Pujols is still awesome. Some things are a tad bit unexpected: Forget Sabathia, Burnett, or Teixeira. Nick Swisher is turning into the Yankees best offseason acquisition. You better believe it!
Keep reading to find out what else we learned in the first month of baseball… Continue reading
