Ladies Links: T-Minus 2 Months Edition

There are less than 2 months until the London Olympics people: today’s links start with another great slideshow of Team USA (distance runner Barnard Legat is just a sample).  Hat tip to The Hairpin, whose staff are clearly our Olympic soulmates.

Advent Calendar of Hotness: Day 20

I’m the farthest thing from an NBA fan, but we realized we’ve neglected those of you in our fanbase that find their hotties with big biceps and long shorts.

And since he’s been in the news so much lately, today’s hottie is recently named Los Angeles Clipper Chris Paul.

I don’t want to break any Hornets fans hearts, so I tried to steer away from the shots of him in New Orleans gear. I hope that hopes a little.

Turns out Paul wears a mean suit and isn’t afraid to flash the pearly whites. Follow the jump for some long overdue basketball love.

Vacation Hangover Links

I’ve been back from my vacation in New Orleans* for about 48 hours now, and I’m not entirely adjusted, so please enjoy these links.  Somehow they are all about baseball, but that wasn’t intentional.

*The picture above was taken on my vacation.  That’s New Orleans Hornets coach Monty Williams 2nd from left, with the GM and President of the franchise, appearing at Jazzfest. I was a little disappointed that no players appeared with them, but Monty Williams is quite nice looking in person.

Take Us Out to the (Basket)Ball Game: The Ladies… Do Madison Square Garden

I almost didn’t make it to Wednesday’s Knicks-Hornets game.  First, I had it down on my calendar for Thursday.  Then there was the massive sinus attack that had me spending most of Wednesday afternoon lying flat on my back to keep my head from spinning. At 5:30, I was convinced my immune system had betrayed me. Luckily, the decongestant finally kicked in about half an hour later and I began to feel, if not perfectly healthy, at least capable of sitting upright and watching basketball for a few hours.

It was definitely worth it.  I had been to Madison Square Garden before, but never for a basketball game.  And particularly not a basketball game featuring Amare (over there on the left), Chris Paul, the newly arrived Carmelo, and a surprise mystery guest.  More pictures and details after the jump!

And Now, A Few Words About the NBA

It’s only our irrational fear of asbestos contamination that has kept us from blogging about the NBA. Really

We here at Ladies… are not the most dutiful of bloggers when it comes to the NBA, particularly at the beginning of the season.  Hey, if you start your season at the same time as the start of hockey season, the World Series, and peak college and NFL football action, you’re going to have to really stick out to get us to pay attention.  Still, now that we are roughly 10 games in, there are a few things you might want to know about if you were too busy cyber-stalking Buster Posey to flip on TNT.

NBA Haiku Preview Part III: Pacific and Southwest Divisions

Chris Paul is good for America.

Chris Paul is good for America.

The NBA season starts in just under a week (I know!), so it’s time for the last installment of our Haiku Previews. (If you missed them, part one is here, part two is here .)

Again, this week’s haikus would not have been possible without TrueHoop, Henry Abbott’s excellent NBA blog and the various NBA team blogs hosted at SBNation.   If you are even mildly curious about what’s going on in professional basketball, you should check these sites out.

Today we tackle the last two Western Conference divisions: the Pacific and the Southwest. As usual, the teams are listed in order of last year’s final regular division standings.

Hump Day Hottie: Chris Paul

I have no idea why I’m on this NBA baller kick. But who cares when they’re really cute NBA ballers. I think I’ve said this before, but when Paul was at Wake Forest (for more than one year at that!) I hated him. Mostly because he was really good and played on a rival team, but the point is I didn’t like him. He also hit another players in the…man area. Way uncool. So when he finished his college career with an overtime lost (granted it was a great game) to West Virginia I was giddy in my hate.

Now, however, I really like Paul. He seems like a genuine good guy who loves basketball and Winston-Salem. And somehow through the hate I didn’t notice how hot he was. What a change in jersey can do. So I offer up to you the hotness that is CP3.

The Highs and Lows of the Advertising Age

Vintage hottie!

Vintage(and groundbreaking) hottie!

The Chronicle of Higher Education reported on their News Blog yesterday that the planned Ernie Davis statue at Syracuse University is suffering from an unfortunate case of anachronism:

The bronze sculpture, unveiled on the campus on Saturday, depicts Mr. Davis wearing Nike cleats and a jersey with a swoosh across his chest, the Associated Press reports. The problem? Mr. Davis hung up his cleats at Syracuse in 1961, years before the brand existed. The university said the mistakes were those of the sculptor, who also included a too-modern helmet.

DON’T LEAVE ME!

Last night was a sad night in basketball and today is my mourning/hangover period. Stupid San Antonio. Stupid defending champs. Stupid Manu Ginobili! (I irrationally dislike him. It’s mostly the name I think.) Now it’s time to face reality. He’s gone. I can’t believe he’s gone. How will I watch the rest of the NBA season without his smile? His speed? His almighty awesomeness? Chris Paul, I mourn the loss of thee on my television set.

Chris Paul Does Not Sleep. He Waits.

Chris Paul knows the singular of “thumbs up”.

So much I’ve missed to talk about in the last couple of weeks of the NBA playoffs. There was the Hawks…and then there wasn’t the Hawks. There were all the teams that lost, there was Steve breaking my heart again, there was an award for Kobe (and not an award for Al). There were sweeps, a seven game series, and the emasculation of LeBron, if only for a game. There was validation; there was utter wrongness. And, of course, there was Chris Paul.

Chris Paul is, at twenty-two, what Steve took thirty years to reach. He is elite. He is amazing. He had the best statistical season (according to PER) of anyone in NBA history except Michael Jordan: he is the GOATEFMJ. He deserves in-depth contemplation and analysis, which is why I’m not going to analyze a thing…except for cute/funny pictures of him, of course.
