While You’re Waiting for the Fireworks….

Happy 4th, America! Hope you are all enjoying the surrealism of a Wednesday holiday. Here is the US Women’s Soccer Team just after their last Olympic tuneup match.  I’m a big fan of the (new?) striped kits, but I do think Nike missed out on a design opportunity by not making the goalie kit darker blue and covered with stars — just think how cool the above picture would look with Hope over in the left corner.

If you are having to work today (or are perhaps one of our Canadian readers), or if you just are looking for some entertainment before the baseball games and fireworks start, we’ve got you covered….

As delicious as a third steak

Here’s a little treat on your Good Friday. New Era, the company that brought you the brilliant Alec Baldwin-John Krasinski series of ads (I watch this one whenever I need cheering up), have launched an all-new rivalry featuring Nick Offerman and Craig Robinson. Yes, friends, Ron Swanson and Darryl Philbin, together at last. Sort of.

It goes without saying that this ranks highly on the Lady Bee Pyramid of Greatness. But I just said it anyway.

Merry Christmas from Ladies…

I could think of worse Christmas presents than being 6th in the East. OH, HERE'S ONE: Ron Wilson's contract extension!

We hope that wherever you are today, you’re celebrating with those you love, doing stuff you love. For me, that’s home with my family in snowy Lower Canada, where we have a turkey roasting and a pumpkin pie baking as I type and I’m counting down until my kids go to bed so I can watch my hubby’s new Classic Games in Old Yankee Stadium DVD (or the “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” set I found in my stocking. Or Bears-Packers. It’s a toss-up.) In the meantime, there’s Lego all over our living room. It’s a beautiful thing.

We’ll pop in occasionally over the holidays in between visits and travel, but rest assured we’ll be back in with an everloving vengeance in 2012. Which is apparently the end of the world or something? I’d better get a last trip to the Bronx in, in that case.

On behalf of the other Ladies…, hugs and kisses and this groovy Christmas tune, a nice antidote to that piece of Carey-Bieber dreck that you’ve been hearing this holiday season:

Five treats you won’t find covered in chocolate tonight*

* in some cases, we wish.

1) Your World Series MVP David Freese

Image Source,Photobucket Uploader Firefox ExtensionLadies, we have a new favourite on the blog to swoon over, and it’s this guy – yes, GM, we’ll wrestle you for him. David Freese also won the NLCS MVP, hit .397 in the postseason, broke a bunch of records, and came through in the clutch. But it’s his humble nature that teammates like Pujols and gals like us love.

But wait, there’s more in our treat bags…

Hit & Run: Quick as a Bunny Edition

bunny

For those of you who observed Easter this weekend, we hope you had a wonderful time with family and friends and avoided eating your weight in ham and chocolate (um, unlike me.) Here’s a quick look at what you may have missed over your three-or-four day weekend.

Your 2010-11 NHL Hotness Preview: Northwest Division

Holiday bloggingHappy Columbus Day and Canadian Thanksgiving! The NHL season is finally underway, and yes, we realize we are a little late filing our previews. But it’s still early enough in the season – heck, TORONTO is tied for first in the East as I type this. I’m not joking! See?

Sorry. I know we’re two games in but it’s been far too long since I’ve seen these guys at the top of the standings. Just let me enjoy this Very Special Moment.

OK! On to the Northwest! Continue reading

Happy 2010!

2009…was it good for you?

Ah, the heady memories! We drank Dr. Pepper and made Super Bowl predictions. We said goodbye to many dear Ladies… and welcomed new ones. We toured Citi Field, Yankee Stadium, Nationals Park, Kaufmann, Busch Stadium, Appleton and the home of the Staten Island Yankees. Oh, and Wimbledon! We analyzed playoff beards (I still maintain this was the worst), sports movie crushes, pitching mechanics and AJ Burnett’s fashion choices. We swapped recipes. We shunned Brett Favre, with no future signs of unshunning. We witnessed history, Steve Nash playing soccer and a Bills win. We stared in adoration at more than a few pitchers. We said thanks to a pioneer. And who could forget our epic MLB All-Star Game liveblog, not to mention hotties too numerous to list.

Thank you, readers, for a fabulous year! We look forward to more of the same in 2010. And if the Yankees repeat, even better!

The Ladies … Give Thanks

I am thankful both these men wear Cardinal red.

Games Mistress is thankful both of these men wear Cardinal red.

Happy (American) Thanksgiving from the Ladies!

While we’re thankful for family, friends, and the chance to stuff ourselves with food while in the company of said family and friends, we here at Ladies… are also thankful for what the sports world has given us over the past year.

Ladies… Guide to Thanksgiving Day Hotties

One of the many reasons I love football...too bad we're not on speaking terms right now.

One of my favorite things about Thanksgiving, besides the food, is football!  So to get you ready for tomorrow’s games, I thought I’d showcase a few hotties from the six NFL teams playing tomorrow.  Some of you have rooting interests in the game, whether it be personal preferences or fantasy points.  For those of you who don’t have any rooting interests, here are some hotties that might just keep you interested in the games.

Follow me after the jump for some hotties to keep an eye out for on Turkey Day!

It’s 4PM, have some Ryan Braun

Ok, it’s way past (or way before)  4PM, but that’s the name of the local magazine who’s current fashion issue features Milwaukee Brewer Ryan Braun. Since I failed to post on Monday, here’s some pre-Thanksgiving, sort-of Hump Day Hottie eye candy – keeps the tummy empty but warms the heart just before the holiday.

Here’s a tease, but follow the jump for some more pictures as well as a video of the cover shoot.

Happy Fourth of July from the Ladies…

It’s that time of years, folks, when we celebrate the birth of America by stuffing our faces full of barbecue and ogling explosions in the sky.

We here at Ladies…have our own hot date with some marching bands and sparklers. (Not at the same time, kids. Practice safe parading.) As such, we’re taking a bit of a break to celebrate America, apple pie, moms and baseball.

And good looking men doing delightful things involving sports.

Happy Birthday, America. Here, have Mike Rowe singing the National Anthem at a Bowie BaySox game.

Your Thanksgiving Day Viewing Schedule

You know what the best part of Thanksgiving? It’s not the family or the food or any of that. It’s the sports you’ll be watching to get away from your family. Okay, and maybe the food. So I thought, when you’re half paying attention to your job or any news as it is today, that I would give you a highlight on some of the games that are coming tomorrow. You can be with your family during all the Black Friday stuff.

I find Dwight Howard to be totes adorable. Hell be adding to your sports viewing tomorrow.

Santa Baby, Hurry Down The Chimney Tonight

Just over a week left before Christmas and you’re still not sure what to get the sporty woman in your life?

Tired of at least four “diamonds for the journey” during every commercial break? Does your brain shut off the second you walk into the local mall? Does your wife grit her teeth every time she remembers the year you bought her a boom box for Christmas, which was returned on December 26th at 9 am?

We here at Ladies know how hard it can be to pick out the perfect gift, so we’ve made ours lists and checked them twice, and figured out which presents are naughty or nice for the female fans in your life.

AND IF THERE IS REALLY IS A SANTA CLAUS THAN HE CAN MAKE SOME OF OUR WISHES COME TRUE! Continue reading

Mother’s Day Potpourri – Your Mom Loves Hot Athletes Too

There is nothing like our moms and the idea of a Mother’s Day post to get these Ladies started.

I could have easily re-posted the 58 emails we exchanged over the course of just one evening talking about our mothers and the relationships we have with them. We laughed, we cried, we admitted to not always being the best of daughters and that more than a few of us, *ahem*, still have not told our moms about this site. Our discussion had enough material to keep Lifetime, Sandra Bullock, and Diane Keaton in business for at least a few more years. (Nancy Meyers! Call us!)

Today for Mother’s Day, we’ve posted a series of posts for our moms and featured the athletes they find hot. Or at least cute. Or maybe know the names of. So scroll down the site and say hi to our mothers, because you know your mom probably loved this guy…

Mother’s Day Potpourri – GordonShumway

DSC01206I know my mother’s favorite athlete without even asking. Unfortunately, she bleeds Carolina Blue and said athlete is Tyler Hansbrough, which makes me feel like eating oven cleaner. To her, Psycho T is the most adorable boy ever. She thinks his big eyes make him look like a Precious Moments figurine, while I think they make him look like a cow. Potato, potahto.

The ‘rents were in town this weekend so I thought I’d take the time to ask her about her all-time favorites, mainly because that gave us something to talk about other than my unemployment…

Mother’s Day Potpourri – Met Mamma Metschick

Ever since I can remember my mom, Paula, has mooned over Pettitte.

I can grudgingly agree that he is handsome, especially when he’s pitching and you can see the fire in his eyes. However, the mere fact that he wears pinstripes makes me want to break out in hives. But she likes who she likes, even though she couldn’t tell you where he just spent the last three seasons, or how many games he’s won in his career, or any other random fact.

Mother’s Day Potpourri – TheStarterMom

markhamill.jpgSo when I first brought up the idea of doing a Mother’s Day Post, I really didn’t know how I felt about telling my mom about this site. (I WASN’T THE ONLY ONE MOM, SO DON’T FEEL BAD!)

First, the actual email I sent to the rest of the Ladies predicting how this whole thing would go down, and then the real conversation I did have with my mother. (Where she uses the word “handsome” quiet often.)

Mother’s Day Potpourri – Clare’s Mom Hearts: Dan Marino

dan_marino.jpgMy mom has never been much of a sports fan. Sports are my father’s domain. She likes the New Orleans Saints for aesthetic reasons (she loves fleur-de-lis), she tolerates the Eagles because they’re only on once a week, and she grinds her teeth when pitchers throw to first to hold a runner on base.

But then there’s Dan Marino. Continue reading

Mother’s Day Potpourri – The Hustle – Mother Lady Andrea

bartstarr.jpgAndrea is one of the brave ladies, who actually told her mother she could email in her hottie picks for today’s post. Without further adieu, Mother Lady Andrea –

I remember when Namath’s commercial came out and the big question was, “Did he shave his legs or not?” We watched the Packers all the time and Starr was today’s Peyton Manning. These two are actually when I was a teenager.

Even though I didn’t really follow tennis, we tuned in to watch John McEnroe, the “bad boy of tennis.” It was kind of like going to a hockey game to watch the fights.

Mother’s Day Potpourri – Momma Magnolia

beckerboris206.jpeg I grew up in one of those houses where complaints of a headache were met with “Here, sugar, have half a Xanax.” As you might imagine, we watched a lot of tennis. My mother’s touring Europe this summer, and is making me teach her German phrases to employ in case she encounters Boris Becker poolside somewhere on The Continent. Now, I love my mother, but we have what you’d charitably call a Complicated Relationship, so understand that when she turns out to have asked her idol to remove the axe from her head when she thought she was asking to buy him a drink, I misled her out of love. And spite. But mostly love.

Happy Mothers’ Day, Momma.
