My kitchen is terrible. The oven is never the temperature it’s supposed to be, and the one big burner on the stove likes to shut off at random times. I can’t make most of the things I find on Pinterest* but here’s one thing I did make: Chocolate- and peanut-butter bananas.

Hey foodie fans – I know it’s a little strange to see a Foodie Friday post on a Monday, but hear me out: Beer Cheese Cupcakes with Bacon Cheddar Cream Cheese Frosting. Yup, you heard me. And since Mondays aren’t anyone’s favorite and cupcakes make everything better, and also in honor of Fat Tuesday being tomorrow, I thought I would share my new favorite recipe with you all that was a TOTAL SUCCESS for Super Bowl Sunday :)
So that happened… my boys in pinstripes won the World Series, Godzilla took home the MVP and all is right with the world. It’s a bitter sweet feeling, harassing Sox fans since just hasn’t had the same feel. Is it spring training yet???
But not to worry, I hopped in the kitchen, thought about football and got right back in the swing of things.
So today I bring you another delectable treat, perfect for your tail-gaiting and football spreads!
In my mind, Mike Piazza will forever be linked to thoughts of the Subway Series, broken bats, and the pissy temper of Roger Clemens. For many of you, however, the former Dodger/Met/Marlin-for-ten-minutes was a beloved figure with his love of heavy metal and his career .308 AVG/.377 OBP/.545 SLG.
So forgive the unfortunate pun. Today’s Foodie Friday will provide a delicious foundation for endless disc-shaped meals. With football season just around the corner – or the Yankees/Red Sox series in full swing – you’ll want to keep this recipe handy. I realize this edition of Foodie Friday doesn’t exactly scream “Food for Boozy Sports Gathering”. But if you need something to bring to a girlfriends’ potluck, a family reunion picnic, or damnit you just want comfort food, this cake-y dessert fits the bill nicely. Besides, wild blueberry season is approaching (at least in my neck of the woods) I usually buy a 5 lb. box and spend the better part of six months making this, or muffins, or pancakes. So, here we are going into the final week of regular season NFL play, smack between Christmas and New Year’s. I thought that perhaps a nice Italian drink and appetizers would suffice. Something different and easy. Fix this trio of Bruschetta with Gorgonzola Cheese and Honey, Capreze Salad Bites, and Prosecco Digestif. Sit back, relax, de-stress and get ready for Sunday … and 2009.
Okay, this should have been up on Friday. But I figured who wants to eat much the day after Thanksgiving? Instead, I’m here to show you today how to make a patty melt and vanilla ice cream shake. Warning – you will need an ice cream maker for this … but you still have time to ask for one for Christmas, right? If you’re like me, and not feeling very well because you’re still recovering from the first winter cold of the season, you’ll get your sweetie to make these dishes. And be patient when you click to view on – the pics take a bit of time to load, but are well worth it.
I’m not a good cook. One of my New Year’s resolutions this year was to do more cooking for myself, under the theory that more practice would mean less burning things; that resolution lasted through two weeks of undercooked poultry and watery sauces before I went back to my old habit of frozen dinners and pasta. However, there are about five recipes on which my results are consistently kickass, mostly because they are very, very simple. Simple I can do.
So, without further ado, my recipe for Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars (named last Sunday by the friend that ate about one third of the batch pictured in this post).
Pay no attention to the messy kitchen behind the ingredients.
While flipping through the pages of a People magazine recently, I saw an ad for M&Ms with NASCAR representative Kyle Busch as an M&M character. It makes sense, because they sponsor his car/team/whatever. Now, don’t get me wrong and I mean no offense, but I’m not a huge fan of racing or Busch. Still, it got me thinking about what other hot guys would look like as an M&M. It can’t be bad, right, combining two things women love – chocolate and really good-looking, fit athletes. So, I sent out a request to the Ladies… for their all-time favorite hottie and a pic. Follow me after the break to see who picked who and what the M&M Generator came up with.
So I took a break from my thrillicious morning (read: applying for middle management jobs at Tire Kingdom) to check out the The Game Plan, the latest escapee from the Disney DVD vault, starring The “Dwayne Johnson” Rock. Mr. Rock plays Joe Kingman, the QB of the Boston Rebels who loves himself, football, and Elvis—in that order—although his Elvis worship is perhaps based on their mutual nickname, “The King”. The Rebels have plowed through their opponents to reach the playoffs of the Unnamed-For-Copyright-Reasons football league and Joe is a big part of their success, mainly because he refuses to pass to his teammates in favor of running in all of the touchdowns himself.*
It just takes one glance at the suitcase-toting pixie beside him on
the DVD case, and we can surmise that things are going to change for Joe**, that he won’t be spending many more evenings alone, watching and re-watching Sportcenter segments about himself (which is how I imagine Terrell Owens spends his free time).
The night after a party involving Russian models and, um, teammates leaving early to get home to their families (Right, like you expected Playmakers), Joe answers a knock at his door and learns that the girl standing in the hall is the result of one of his, um, naked bootlegs. Now before you spew some Tom Brady/Matt Leinart-style snark, allow me to point out that Joe was married to her mother, Sarah, and they were divorced before she knew she’d been quarterback sneaked. And she’s now off providing fresh drinking water to the drought-ravaged children of the Sudan***, so don’t hate. Continue reading

Today, we’re hopping in our Delorean and going back to old-school wrestling. I grew up watching these guys (Royal Rumbles were my FAVORITE. They were SO exciting.) Since these wrestlers were popular 15-20 years ago, we’re simply going to test your memories in a Name That Wrestler contest.

A few weeks ago, the good people at Disney contacted us to tell us Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s movie The Game Plan was coming out on DVD today and did we want to do a little something about it?
In about five minutes, our afternoon email round robin took a decidedly “OMG THE ROCK!! SQUEEEEEEE!!” tone. So today and tomorrow, we’re grooming our eyebrows and sharpening our People’s elbows to bring you Rocky goodness in review, flashback and quiz form.
