One of my favorite parts of the All Star festivities is the looser uniform restrictions. It reminds me of my days in Catholic school when we had to wear our uniforms on a field trip but could accessorize anyway we chose. Girls would wear crazy earrings and fun shoes with funky socks. We went buckwild, and it’s no different for the boys participating in the All Star Game.
That brings us to this year’s fashion statements. Use your fancy new cleats to jump over the break for some of this year’s best feet accessories.
My favorite shoes this year belonged to arguably my least favorite player, Bryce Harper. His custom Under Armour (Maryland represent!) cleats featured the New York skyline. And his Twitter handle.
Orange and blue were the most popular colors. Max Scherzer, Matt Harvey, Manny Machado and Chris Davis were among the orange cleat club:
Jose Fernandez also rocked some sweet orange cleats with holographic panels:
Greg Holland of the Royals represented the powder blue cleats sector:
Then there were the guys who stuck with the traditional colors: neon yellow, shimmery purple and shiny red.
I hope you enjoyed this nice sampler of this year’s shoe porn. You’d think the attention shoes get during All Star festivities would convince MLB to loosen up the uniform regulations in the regular season, as well. Maybe when old man Selig is gone, things like this will change.
BONUS: Because you stuck around for an MLB fashion show, I’m leaving you with an extra special All Star gif.
Who doesn’t love Prince Fielder’s reaction when he realizes he just hit a triple?
Harper’s were cool, but only if you can see them close up like this. I didn’t realize what was on them until this morning!
great post but why the Harper hating?
Sorry! Just not a big Harper fan. I think he might need to grow up a little bit before I’ll like him.
