Apparently Mr. Ronaldo was the first futbol player to sport the orange cleats that littered the World Cup this summer. He debuted them back in October of 2009, if my sources are correct.
Shoes seem to be such a hot topic these days. First, we had the whole orange shoe craze at the World Cup, now the flashy shoes have infiltrated the MLB All-Star Game. Everyone’s favorite announcers, Chris Berman and Joe Morgan, were all abuzz about David Ortiz’s shoes that they forgot to talk about all the home runs he was hitting.
So join me after the jump, where we take a look at some All-Star Game foot fashion. Forget the long ball, chicks dig the shoes.
Let’s talk about the two guys getting all the shoe love early on: David Ortiz and Hanley Ramirez.
Big Papi went with the red toe look. I hear it’s very fashionable in Milan this summer.
Next we have Hanley Ramirez. I think his metallic and teal look was my favorite. Berman and Morgan weren’t as high on Ramirez’s kicks, but that might have something to do with the man and not the gear. Oh what am I thinking? I’m giving those two too much credit.

Not a big teal and silver fan, but they're the Marlins' colors, so I'll cut Hanley a break. Despite the colors, they were still pretty stylin'.
Another Ladies… favorite sported some can’t-miss-kicks: David Wright. Wright rocked some orange cleats, complete with Mets blue laces. I’m providing two pictures for better visual evidence of the shoes. Yeah, better visual evidence of the shoes, that sounds believable.
Now it looks like we might just have a copycat on our hands. The offender? The Giants’ Brian Wilson. Wilson’s shoes seem to be a bit more fluorescent than Wright’s kicks. Wilson’s shoes stole the spotlight away from Wright, though. His shoes even got a close-up, bump shot heading into the commercial break. Wright’s shoes now have screen time envy. (h/t to CuteSports for the screen cap)
Wright and Wilson weren’t the only copycat cleat wearers. Gray shoes seemed to be a popular trend this year. NL starting pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez spruced up his gray cleats with some Rockies’ purple laces – always a nice touch.
Matt Holliday also went with the gray look. He ventured away from the red cleats that we typically see on the Cardinals players. Too bad his gray cleats didn’t distract me from that botched catch late in the game. Good thing that didn’t come back and bite him in the ass.
Miguel Cabrera went with the all gray look, as well. Actually, I think Cabrera and Holliday are wearing the same exact cleats. What do you think?
Ryan Howard also wore some pretty nice cleats. Not too much color, just a nice splash here and there. Very tastefully done, Ryan.
The Rangers’ Elvis Andrus sported a nice pair of cleats that had a bit of Rangers’ red and blue in them. Too bad those shoes couldn’t help him not over-slide second base.

Elvis didn't have blue suede shoes, but he did have some nice blue and red stripes on his Nike cleats.
And now for some great shoes with a side of adorable that will help fill your cute quotient for the day.

Forget the fact that Andy Pettitte is a Yankee and wearing a red cleat. I'm too distracted by the cuteness of Andy's son, Luke. This picture is just too adorable.
Not only does the National League just win the All-Star Game this year, they win best shoes, hands down. Not that this was a competition or anything, but maybe if we got to see A-Rod’s shoes, he would have put the AL over the top, but what do I know?
I love that little Luke’s glove is comically huge. What a cutie!
And I understand I went to bed just before Phil Hughes’ ASG debut. Sadness! Though apparently I didn’t miss much… :(
That pic is the Texas Ranger is of Vladimir Guerrero, not Elvis Andrus. But great read. Thought Ubaldo was wearing light purple cleats when I was first watching on TV, lol.
Sorry about that. I definitely put this post together pretty late last night after 4 hours of staring at a computer screen and live-blogging with my fellow Ladies. Whoops! I switched it to the right picture. Thanks for pointing it out and not making me feel like a complete moron! :)
Hanley Ramirez’s cleats were made by Boombah. They are custom-made Vengeance Metal Cleats and are not for sale yet. However, there are several different color combinations to choose from!
