Hit and Run: With a Perfect Buehrle

Rays White Sox Baseball

So it was a busy week as baseball got back into the groove of things after the All Star break. There was a whole lot going on. Brand new division leaders, a naked Tony Bernazard, and to top it all off, a PERFECT GAME! More on all of this week’s happenings after the jump.

I couldn't find a pic of the actual catch so this will have to do.

I couldn't find a pic of the actual catch so this will have to do. However, if you have not seen it, I suggest you youtube it.

Of course I have to congratulate Mark Buehrle for throwing the 18th perfect game in MLB history. That’s why he was the cover boy for my post. But I have to give it up to Dewayne Wise and his amazing catch in the ninth inning. With one play, he saved the perfect game, no hitter, and shut out.

Here is Tony Bernazard with his shirt ON.

Tony Bernazard, the Mets VP for player development, went all Mike Singletary on the Binghamton Mets. Except Bernazard’s choice of clothing to remove was his shirt. During a meeting with the team, he took off his shirt and challenged a few of the players to a fight. This bizarre story just has me wondering, can things get any worse for the poor Mets?

All is good in Yankee land at the moment. They slumped into the All Star break after getting swept by the damn Angels, but they have returned with a vengeance. They are undefeated in 7 games and have taken a 2.5 game lead in the AL East. Let’s just say that I am one happy baseball fan at the moment.

The A’s and the Twins gave us the most exciting game of the week when they played one another on Monday. Say what you will about the play at the plate; Michael Cuddyer definitely thought he was safe and so did I. However, when your team gives up a TEN run lead, you really have no right to complain about a call at the plate. You should not have put yourself in the position to lose that game in the first place.

  1. Perfect games rock! I was listening to it at work and burst into tears when it was over – and I hate the White Sox! But any perfect game is cool with me, just can’t believe he hasn’t done it to my pathetic Royals yet. Wise’s catch deserves some sort of award.

  2. I got home just in time to catch some of the immediate post-game. I wish I could have seen the game, but I was still so happy! I can’t believe that a pitcher on both of my fave teams (Reds & WS) have thrown perfect games in my lifetime. And seeing Buehrle w/his wife and baby after the game was so sweet it brought tears.

But seriously, he owes Mr. Wise a steak dinner or something! That was a heck of a catch.

  3. World Series win. Check.
    World Series save. Check.
    All Star Game appearance. Check.
    Homerun. Check.
    No-hitter. Check.
    Perfect game. Check.
