You Gotta Be Kidding Me!

I was watching TV last night, my laptop in front of me, trying to decide what to write about for my post today. Something funny, something interesting, something different…then the top of the ninth happened in the Yankee game. Forgive me, I promise not to make a habit of it, but I need to complain about the men in pinstripes for a little bit.*May 07 - 00:05*

Things in Yankeeland seem to be going from bad to worse. For starters, owners absolutely hate the fans. We already knew this. As fans, we have all come to terms with the fact that owners could care less about us. But the Yankees want to make sure their fans truly know how much we are hated. Of course, I am referring to the “rained out” game on Monday night. I understand that the fine print states that there is no re-admittance, but come on! What these organizations need to realize is that the fans are the only thing keeping them afloat. I personally love watching games and seeing all those empty seats in the front rows. Charging that much for baseball seats should be illegal.

Now if you are going to charge that much for people to see a team, shouldn’t the team be the best thing since sliced bread? It should not be a team who is 0-5 against their rivals! It sure as hell should not be a team who recently just lost FIVE in a row! I realize it is only the beginning of May. I am a firm believer in the quote “Baseball is a marathon, not a sprint.” Every team is going to go through slumps – some will be more major than others. There are quite a few things that could be contributing to the Yanks recent skid…certain things that they cannot really control. They have had trouble once again with injuries. Wang is gone and was never really here in the first place. We just lost Posada again and we are missing Bruney badly in the bullpen.

It is not just that the Yankees are losing games; it is HOW they are losing the games. I, as well as every other Yankee fan watching the game last night, could not believe what happened in the top of the ninth in last night’s game. The Yankees come back from a 2-run deficit, only to lose the game from back-to-back home runs off of Mo! And that is how it has been these last few games they lost. They will be losing the game, then it seems like they might actually be making a comeback, and then they always fall short.

And now to top it all off, A-Rod is coming back. I know I am not alone in my feelings towards A-Rod (I know even a few of my fellow Ladies… feel the same as I do). I love the Yankees, always have and always will. But the animosity I feel towards the man at third base seems to grow more and more every day. I do not care how productive he is; he is just an added distraction to the team. This may just be me being paranoid but I truly believe this team will not win a World Series as long as A-Rod is a teammate. Seeing as he is going to be on the team for a longgg time, I really hope I am wrong on this one.

Sorry about the rant. I promise it won’t happen often. But this team has been stressing me out these past few days. I don’t know what it is. They are a good team, they have good players but there is something missing. You can put it all on a poor bullpen but it is more than that. They are missing that something extra that makes a great team. You can call it chemistry, drive, whatever…there is just something missing. I just hope they can get it together and fast. The AL East is no easy ride. You can’t have too big of a slump and expect to make it out of that division.

  1. As a Jays fan, I am very, very happy. What you’re going through now was last season for us. I understand the pain but I’m really glad it’s the folks who stole AJ Burnett from us who are getting the ride.

  2. This Yankees fan hears you loud and clear, Lady Liz! There’s only so many times you can use the DL as an excuse (though the list is extensive…) I’m sure Tex will work his way of the slump, and Burnett and Sabathia will find their groove. But geez, Cashman, DO SOMETHING about that bullpen!

As much as I hate to accept it, A-Rod might be just what they need to get the swagger back.

And don’t even get me started on the tickets (says the gal who had to resort to StubHub to secure her ticket for Sept. 11 weekend)
