So the Netherlands pulled off their second stunning upset over the Dominican Republic (in extra innings, no less) and have advanced to the second round of the World Baseball Classic.  To illustrate how unlikely this scenario was, Dutch team officials had the team booked to fly home on Monday, sure that they would not be advancing.  Where’s Jim Nantz to start throwing around the Cinderella tag when you need him?

In other March tournament news, Cleveland State won the Horizon League tourney by upsetting nationally ranked Butler, in the very gym where the movie Hoosiers was shot. How’s that for some Cinderella cred?

In past Cinderella news, Davidson’s return to the NCAA tourney is looking dicey after the Wildcats were eliminated in the semifinals of the Southern League tournament. Davidson has won 26 games, and 4 of their losses were to highly ranked power schools, so there’s always the possibility of an at-large berth, but we may not be seeing Stephen Curry on national television again as a college player.

And finally, this has nothing to do with Cinderellas at all, but it’s Friday and you need an excuse to goof off …
