Things that are awesome about October baseball (already)

In one of my classes yesterday, a professor asked how everyone was doing. I was not the only one to jubilantly proclaim “It’s OCTOBER!” Finally. It’s the time of year when everyone follows baseball every day, instead of ignoring it because “the games don’t count yet.”

The White Sox and Rays are about to get underway at The Trop, and Chicago wouldn’t be there if it weren’t for this guy the other night.

Cole Hamels started October in a very big way for his Phillies, striking out 9 Brewers in 8 innings.

Up next, the Dodgers and Cubs were locked into a pretty tight game until Lou Pienella left Ryan Dempster in for just a bit too long. James Loney made him pay in grand fashion. Manny Ramirez tacked on a RIDICULOUS, golf-esque homer for good measure.

Ramirez apparently wasn’t missed by his old Boston fans when his replacement, Jason Bay, lifted the Red Sox into a lead over the Angels. A Red Sox fan I know HATED Bay when that deal was made, but is now just amused at how “lost” Bay looks because he’s surrounded by a winning team instead of perennial losers in Pittsburgh. Looks like other Sawx fans are also embracing Bay:

So that’s what happened yesterday. Today, the White Sox and Rays play in like 2 minutes; followed by the Phillies v. Brewers, and then the Dodgers and Cubs.
