Here at Ladies…, though we are dedicated to ogling the men of the sporting world, we do like to cheer on our sisters as well. In that spirit, I just have this to say:
M-I-Z! Z-O-U! The Missouri Tigers softball team won their first NCAA Regional in Iowa City this past Sunday. They will now face the third seeded Alabama Crimson Tide in the super regional in Tuscaloosa this weekend. Read more about these ladies and their fantastic run after the jump.
The Tigers won the regional in dramatic fashion, with a 3-2 win over Iowa. Junior Stacy Delaney threw her 18th complete game of the year, and Andee Allen drove in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh. Mizzou won an earlier game against the Hawkeyes with a walkoff home run. They are following in the great Missouri tradition of making the fans grow an ulcer before winning the game.
Over the years, the softball team has come close to this. but never quite got there. This has been an up and down season for Mizzou, so its nice to see them peaking at the right time. These gals, along with 15 other teams, will play this weekend for the right to go to the Women’s College World Series. Click here to see if your favorite team made it. You can catch many of these games on ESPN and their many children this weekend.
