Hit & Run: I think the Falcons were a teensy bit distracted, no?

The New Orleans Saints walloped the Atlanta Falcons, 34-14, in the Monday night game. I, of course, didn’t watch the game because (wait for it) I went to Walmart to look for a toy. Also, I was a bit bored. Sometimes, when I’m bored, I head to Walmart to see what sticks. I really prefer Target but eh, Walmart’s okay in a pinch. Yesterday, I picked up some tapioca pudding, some PlayDoh, a few pairs of trouser socks, a package of gel pens, a pair of Tinkerbell slippers (for Baby Mets) and a loaf of bread. I love being able to pick up all kinds of crap in one place. But I did not find the toy I was looking for. That damn Little Tikes Sing Along CD player is sold out everywhere.

Anyways, Drew Brees passed for 300+ yards and 3 TDs in an impressive performance. I forget which of the Ladies… has Drew, but those are some pretty numbers right there.

Poor Alcons fans…

While reading about this story, I was more interested in the Michael Vick angle. I, like any person with an ounce of compassion and decency, believe that what Vick and his co-defendants did was disgusting and vile. What I was a little confused about was all the support for him that was on display from the fans and the players themselves. I understand support like that when the accused is being wrongly prosecuted or if he were wrongly convicted. But that isn’t the case in the Vick matter.

I guess I’ll never understand that…

For example, here we have DeAngelo Hall, wearing a MV7 “tribute” to Vick. A tribute to what, is what I want to know.

This one is priceless! I highly doubt they’re doing this for the irony of it. I really want to ask them, free Vick from what? From the prison sentence that he deserves?

The fans had their own signs: “Michael didn’t do it” and the like. Oh, so he was framed? Is that what you’re saying? Seriously, it’s like their two brain cells didn’t rub together before making the sign.

I may come off as holier-than-thou here, and definitely a little incoherent, but I just think that Vick should just accept responsibility for his crimes and just serve his sentence. Which he is doing. But I’d like to impress that upon all the maroons “supporting” Vick by scribbling “Free Michael Vick” on their jerseys or a piece of cardboard. There are other ways of showing your support for someone other than claiming he’s innocent, even if you’re not using exactly those words.

Reggie Bush’s season, it seems, has come to an end. After being checked out by Dr. James Andrews (now there’s a familiar name that instills fear in the hearts of sports fans), Reggie was diagnosed with a torn PCL. Fortunately, he won’t be needing surgery. Now, Reggie, I better not be hearing about any rendezvouz with any slutty girls during all your down time! Oh, what am I saying – that’s all he’ll be doing.

Moving on, the New Jersey Devils got a stick between their legs, and lost to the Washington Capitals, 3-2. That is their second loss in a row. Hee, that stick is dangerously near to some equipment that Patrick Elias considers vital.

Paul Lo Duca is heading south after signing a 1-year deal with the Washington Nationals. Good-bye, Captain Red Ass. I’m sure the female college freshmen in Long Island will miss you.

This is from last week, but it’s new to me. Jose Reys has been tapped to be the face of Major League Baseball 2K8. “This is the first time I have ever been on the cover of a video game and it is very exciting to be a part of the best video game out there,” said Reyes. I prefer MLB Power Pros, but what do I know.

In other Reyes news, he’s been training down in Dominican Republic, (check out the slide show that accompanies the story, there are some neat pictures in there) and oh-my-God, I really want to go down there, he’s just making me jealous. It’s been 3 years since I last went. And know that picture doesn’t look like much – after all, it’s just a wall – it’s a great place to go to. And I’ll shut up now.
