Hit & Run: Wham, Bam, Thank You, Ma’am.

Big Ben did his thang last night, leading his Steelers to a 38-7 victory over the Ravens. The Steelers tied their franchise single-game record with 5 TD passes, and the defense lowered the boom, forcing four turnovers, all before halftime.

Ben was hit by Terrell Suggs in the third quarter, but returned early in the fourth quarter. He finished the game with 209 yards, and 5 TD throws, bringing his season total to date to 20, a career record for him in half a season. He also threw a TD pass in his 13th consecutive date, breaking Terry Bradshaw’s team record of 12.

I just have one question. How is the guy up there also the guy here?

Joe Torre was given a warm welcome in Los Angeles, as he takes over as manager of the Dodgers. All the regular Dodger names were there, including Vin Scully and Tommy Lasorda. Don Mattingly and Larry Bowa will be following Torre out West. Okay, I’ll be honest with you all, I don’t really care too much about this, but Joe Torre looks like a muppet in that picture. More so than usual, anyway.

The Red Sox and Curt Schilling are close to finalizing a deal for 2008, and it will likely be his last season in his career. The deal is worth about $8 million in salary, with another $2 million in potential incentives. Clare is pissed at the news.

Derrick Rose and No. 3 Memphis Blue Demons defeated Tenn.-Martin, 102-71, in the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic. The touted freshman had 17 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists in his debut, but he graded himself a “C”, claiming he “can do a lot better”. (That picture is from his prep school days.)

Andy Pettite declined his player option with the Yankees, unsure that he wants to play next season. Of course he doesn’t, his bestest friend Roger Clemens probably isn’t going to be playing next season.

And I know this is nearly a week old, but dammit if David Wright doesn’t look delicious in that interview.

  1. The biggest Hit and Run from last night’s game was the Hines Ward hit on Ed Reed last night. After Ward hit him, he called for the trainers of the Ravens

  2. Was that picture of Ben from his “it’s so damn hot, milk was a bad choice” days?

@Ian: Ed Reed had a huge hit put on him from James Harrison on a punt return too.

  3. I love Andy Pettite- always have, conveniently chose to ignore the pinstripes. I forgive my Texas boys (especially the Houstonians) just about anything, even being on the Yankees.

And just because I cannot say it enough: YAY CURT! I LOVE YOU!

  4. I told y’all he was looking yummy. I’ve watched that interview damn near 100 times already. OMG, James Harrison is animal, someone said he hit Ed Reed so hard that ball flew nearly 15 feet in the air. I fell asleep and missed it. I think ESPN’s preshow is way too long.

  5. I absolutely love Ben but it makes me feel so guilty/dirty because he’s the enemy. In fact, its seems that he has even replaced my all-time fb crush Dan Marino. Does this make me a bad fan? Of course, as bad as the Bengals season has become, is this even an issue?

I love Pettite’s stare. I would strike out everytime because my knees would be jello.

  6. Ben is starting to look like that Jason kid from “Laguna Beach”.

Oh gosh, did I just admit that I watch “Laguna Beach” and “The Hills” in print!?
