Hit and Run: Cleanse Your Palate

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings so early in the day, but Ladies… it looks like David Wright is going to be a confirmed bachelor for the near future. That’s right- return the wedding dress, cancel the caterer and see if you can get a refund on that church deposit– because the #1 thing in DWright’s life is white, spherical and has big ol’ red stitches across its face… and I’m not talking about Mr. Met.

And while Davey’s Mets were getting pounded by Boomer Wells and the Dodgers (sorry, Metsy), fellow New Yorkers of the pinstriped variety ran into problems of their own with the Tigers– and Curtis Granderson‘s inside the park homerun helped lead Detroit to the W. Wonder if those wheels Curtis has can take them all the way to the playoffs?

Phillie fans had two reasons to cry this weekend (losses against the Padres on Friday and Saturday night), and three reasons to celebrate- (1) Sunday’s victory, but more importantly, (2) it looks like Cole Hamels could be activated on September 3rd, and (3) Chase Utley has already been activated— and could play as soon as today. Chutley filled out that Reading Phillies uni nicely enough, but I think everyone will be happier when he’s back on the diamond in big boy Phillie pinstripes. Well, at least Clare and I will.

Jeff Bagwell was honored yesterday when the Astros retired his #5 jersey— including remarks from Craig Biggio, Brad Ausmus and his boyhood hero Carl Yastrzemski (he’s a Red Sox fan, too!). The sweet and touching event was nearly marred when Bagwell showed up wearing what looked like your grandma’s draperies fashioned into a button-down, so to avoid that horror I’m using a picture of him in uni from back in the day.

And Lady Andrea’s “hottie” Julian Tavarez completed the Red Sox sweep of the White Sox with a victory on Sunday, ending the four-games with a combined run tally of 46-7. Which gives me a perfect excuse to post this picture of him from the game, and ask: What are you thinking, Andrea???

Seriously? No, really- SERIOUSLY?!?

I love y’all too much to leave you with that as the last image of Freddy Krueger burned into your retinas, so how about a couple of lovely shots of hottie (no quotation marks- he’s the real deal) Joe Mauer to cleanse your palate?

About Texas Gal

Pitched four years for the Philadelphia Athletics, and then played shortstop for seven years for the Montreal Expos. Taught Rickey Henderson to steal a base. Taught Nolan Ryan to throw a punch. Taught Mickey Mantle to drink a beer. Threw one seven-hitter and seven no-hitters. Wonderboy was my creation, and first Jobu shrine was in my locker. Often called "the next Dustin Pedroia". Always wear high socks and eyeblack. Prefer to slide headfirst.

  1. Texas Gal, that is a horrible picture. In that video where Manny rubs his head, he looks downright cute.

Also, you and Clare are not the only ones happy about Hamels. I need him to come back so I can keep dominating Fantasy Baseball.

  2. David Wright thinks Vick should pay for his crimes? Ahh, I am in love more than before. Joe Mauer is such a stud, his lil butt chin is adorable.

And all I have to say about Chutley and Cole is THANK the heavens. We were slippin pretty far down there.

  3. :( fucking David Wells. We should’ve swept the Dodgers.

Oh, well. I’ll go back to looking at my ESPN the Mag with its lovely pic of LT leaning up against his Impala.

  4. OMG! Did you see Wells’ bunt single last night? Funniest thing I saw all weekend. I actually was amazed he didn’t need a pinch runner after that! Hell, I was surprized he didn’t die!

  5. 4 or 5 IM’s was apparently my max output at said time

i was too busy hitting up a UFC fighter for free brews

but that’s a whole ‘nother ball of wax

  6. Bitches that were suggested to him by a teammate or opponent.

No, really, DWright- listen to your opponents Brett Myers and Jayson Werth and the rest of the Phils- I’m sure they have some GREAT girls for you to go out with.

  7. Yeah, very nice body, indeed. And, he’s an up-and-comer. That last loss to Parisiyan was an awful close match, and Parisiyian is a hell of a fighter.

I think a perfect reason to flirt with athletes is that when you are telling your friends about him on Monday, you can send a link with pics and bio. And with UFC guys, those pics are even half naked.

  8. Jealous! I’ve never seen an inside-the-park homer in person. It’s one of those baseball feats you want to check off your “To See” list. I finally saw a grand slam (thanks Papi!) in Boston, I’d still love to see a triple play and a suicide squeeze, as well as seeing a batter go for the cycle.

Lindsey- any pretty pictures to share?

  9. Yes, i did indeed take lots of pictures! I used all my batteries lastnight though! haha, so i gotta pick some up and i’ll upload them, most likely tomorrow! Lastnight was so sweet, couldn’t have picked a better game to go to. And i think every person in the stadium was into it, which always makes it that much better! Was anyone else here at the game lastnight? I’m thinkin i might try to get tickets for tomorrow nights game!!
Once I upload my pics, is there a certain way to post them on here or do i just post links to my photobucket?? Forgive me i’m new to this site haha…

  10. Oh sweet lord, thank you for the Joe Mauer pictures. That’s EXACTLY what I need to wake up to in the morning. Screw coffee, this is SO much better.
And turns out why Hamels started having trouble with his arm is because on his day off, he relaxed instead of doing shoulder exercises. I swear, that boy does not think some times–That’s like when he pitched a bad game and went “Yeah, well, I was eating dinner last night and cut my finger with a knife.” Cole, I don’t know if you got the memo, but you don’t need to cut your own dinner anymore. Just sayin.
