Hump Day Hottie: Josh Beckett

En route to the American League’s 10th straight victory over the NL in last night’s All-Star Game, Red Sox ace pitcher — and smokin’ hottie– Josh Beckett picked up the win. If you like the quiet, humble, shy, retiring types, who relax by reading poetry and watching Masterpiece Theatre and drinking a nice merlot, Josh Beckett is not for you. On the other hand, if you (like me) like your men tall (6’5″) and strong and brash and fiery, with a heap of cockiness and a whole hell of a lot of redneck, then Texas boy Josh is a man you’ll love.

Tons more Beckett-y goodness after the jump…

This is the part where I tell you that Josh grew up the next neighborhood over from me in the far northwest reaches of Houston, Texas. In the boonies of hick country, y’all- I can vouch for that. And that he idolized Nolan Ryan and Roger Clemens. And that he wears wranglers and boots. And has a lovely Texas drawl. And owns his own deer hunting ranch (he once won the award for the largest deer shot during the TX hunting season, a 14-point, 245-pound buck). And always has a dip can in his back pocket. And that he’s known to be rowdy with guys from opposing teams. And that he won the MVP of the World Series in 2003, and owns one of them shiny World Series Champ-eens rings from his days as a Marlin. And that he is leading MLB with 12 wins this year. Oh, yeah- and that he is RIDICULOUSLY GOOD LOOKING.

Yee-haw, baby. Because when Todd Helton, the self-described redneck of the Rockies, says Josh is a bigger redneck than he is, that’s a mighty big neck o’ red.

About Texas Gal

Pitched four years for the Philadelphia Athletics, and then played shortstop for seven years for the Montreal Expos. Taught Rickey Henderson to steal a base. Taught Nolan Ryan to throw a punch. Taught Mickey Mantle to drink a beer. Threw one seven-hitter and seven no-hitters. Wonderboy was my creation, and first Jobu shrine was in my locker. Often called "the next Dustin Pedroia". Always wear high socks and eyeblack. Prefer to slide headfirst.

  1. Josh is a Red Sox fan’s dream come true. Hell, who am I kidding? I wouldn’t care if he played for Toronto, I would still love him like crazy. Just helps that he’s wearing my team’s uni. And wearing it well, I might add.

  2. On liking guys tall: they showed bits of the Chris Young/Derrek Lee fight last night, which I missed the first time around.

HOLY. That’s a lot of tall-and-good-looking, filled with righteous anger. Almost too much for me to take.

On Beckett: I find him more cute than hot, but I know if I watched him pitch more, he’d move to “awwwww yeah” territory. I do love a man who is good at what he does.

  3. I interned for the Kane County Cougars, the Class A club that Josh played with when he was in the minors. Definitely cocky, but also ridiculously nice. He always bought beer for the players making $800 a month (and for the interns making less than that!) and he was fun to hang out with. I remember standing behind the center field bleachers when he was pitching, and the crack of the ball in the catcher’s mitt was so hard it gave me chills. (That makes it sound dirty…) I always knew that he was going to do well in the majors, but I had no idea that he was going to be a superstar. It’s fun to watch.

And for the record, yes, he’s smokin’ hot. Though I could do without the crap on his chin; it seems like he’s trying to make himself look older.

Now I’m feeling like I’ve posted this about him before. Throw something at me if I have.

  4. GREAT story, chitowntiger. And I’ve heard the same kind of things about him- he’s cocky (which is probably the reason he gets into it with people from other teams)… but extremely loyal, funny, a great teammate and everyone who plays with him likes him.

  5. Good idea Texas Gal. Or else I can pretend he’s doing an advertisement and I don’t see any type of logo.

  6. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I thought I was the only one who thought he was ridiculously hot. For some reason, this man just radiates sex. Keep up the good work, girls. Any Josh is a good Josh. Even when he’s a cocky bastard. Wait…especially when he’s a cocky bastard!

  7. THANK YOU! What a hump day surpise. He is totally hot. Some of these pictures are jaw dropping. Too damn sexy! Saw him a few weeks ago at an event Varitek had and couldn’t keep my eyes off him. I agree, love the cockiness. But the fact that he’s a nice guy wins me over too. {{clap}} Good job.

  8. Totally agree, KBee – *ESPECIALLY* then.

And Huck- now you need to tell us the details of the event. And don’t leave out the parts about Tek, because he’s hot, too.

  9. It was a mini-golf event that Tek has every year. We were just spectators but were lucky enough to be at the end where Josh was golfing. He was adorable. He was really the only one we could get pictures of…..not complaining, mind you. We saw Tek from afar mostly. Gorgeous too. Alot of the Sox were there and we got to “see” them all. But Josh we got up close and personal. :)

  10. Playing cost like $5000 a foursome….that’s why we watched. LOL Josh had his issues golfing, but knew it. Which was really funny. He shook his head alot as the ball went the opposite way of the hole. HAHA Good stuff. We wanted to see all the players but were really happy to be “stuck” with Josh. :)

  11. Beth has Josh nailed down flat!! I am stoked about getting to see him pitch while at Fenway this past week. His recent comment in the presser cursing just shows how much of a Texas boy he is….as ya’ll know “Don’t Mess with Texas”

  12. I fucking love this guy. But “Mischievious Josh” had me melting/drooling/swooning/lusting all at once. A close second is “Cutie Josh” with “This is Sparta Josh” coming in third, simply because it made me lol, and lust. :D

  13. I am a HUGE fan of Josh Beckett – he is sexy, confident and talented! Oh ya, a good pitcher too but the only thing he doesn’t have going for him is a fan mail address! There is no way to TRY to tell him how big of a fan you are. Did I mention he is overly goodlooking?! My entire family is Red Sox fans – I’m just a Beckett fan!

  14. Josh was my teamate in HS. Hes a bulldog on the mound and comes off as arragont, but hes a kid and loves to play pranks and joke around off the field. Great teamate and great leader on the field. Good to see hes turned out to be an all star calliber pitcher as we knew he would be.
