Adam Haluska, my resident Homer Hottie and starting point guard for the University of Iowa Hawkeyes, has been named the Academic All-American of the Year by ESPN the magazine and the College Sports Information Directors of America. Adam is a finance major and sports a 3.5 grade point average. He is leading the Big Ten in scoring and is in the Top 20 in the nation in both scoring and free throw percentage. He also has the longest current streak of starts, having started 126 games in a row (all of his college games). I would like to salute my boy Adam because in an age of coaches having graduation rates in the gutter, it is nice to see an active, starting player also doing great things in the classroom.
