Hump Day Hottie: Sidney Ponson

The Royals gave me a very happy St. Patrick’s Day by signing Sir Sidney Ponson (yes, Sir! He was knighted in his native Aruba). They were impressed with his showing for the Netherlands in the World Baseball Classic, and might now be putting him in the KC Opening Day rotation.Yes, please.

Grrr, baby!

Grrr, baby!

LOTS more after the jump.

Friday Fellow: Boyd Gordon

Whew, what a week this has been. We lost so many Ladies… on Monday, which was sad. (Confidential to all the now-departed Ladies…: I will miss you!) And also, that was Monday, and those are always stupid.

So let’s all console ourselves with a hockey hottie, shall we? Say hello and “hey, come here often?” to Boyd Gordon.

I had never watched a Caps game. Maybe I should now!

The Ladies … Super Bowl Party Preview, or Preview Party, Your Choice

I hope the game is more exciting than this logo.

I hope the game is more exciting than this logo.

We are now a little over 48 hours away from the culmination of the entire 2008-09 NFL season.  Just like the World Series, this championship features a team making its unlikely first appearance in the big game and … a team from Pennsylvania.  Plus they are playing it in Tampa.  It’s certainly not the first time a city has hosted both a World Series and a Super Bowl, but it may be the first time a city outside of California has done it. So there’s your (unverified) Super Bowl fact of the day.

As this is a sports blog, written by sports fans, most of us Ladies have plans to watch the game. Some of us are neutral, some of us have a particular team, some of us are just obsessed with Kurt Warner, but we’ll all be parked in front of a television somewhere at game time.  Further details after the jump, but first:

Hot Stove Hotties

Each week this Hot Stove season, we’ll look at some done deals and juicy rumors involving our favorite MLB hotties, and the occasional not-really-a-hottie, but still worth talking about.

Guess what, y’all! No, go on…guess. We are less than 3 weeks away from Spring Training!  There’s a light at the end of the deep, horrible tunnel of winter!

Hot Stove Hotties: Hamels, Markakis, bad MS Paint

Each week this Hot Stove season, we’ll look at some done deals and juicy rumors involving our favorite MLB hotties. This week was extra-hot.

One of the big stories this week was Cole Hamels. The only two-time Hump Day Hottie in the history of the world signed an extension with the Phillies for 3 years and 20.5 million Jr. Bacon Cheeseburgers. And just look at that suit! Is that tie some sort of paisley, or is it…amoeba?

Phils fans get to keep him for three more years.

Hot Stove Hotties: the Mostly Cubs edition

Each week this Hot Stove season, we’ll look at some done deals and juicy rumors involving our favorite MLB hotties, and the occasional not-really-a-hottie, but still worth talking about.

The Cubs were just cuh-RAZY this week, making approximately 1744 roster moves. And I decided to make a theme for this week’s post: Goofy Face pictures (no Pitcherface – that’s way too easy). They’re surprisingly easy to find. Anyway, back to the Cubs: They’ll send starter Jason Marquis to Colorado for reliever Luis Vizcaino.

The Ladies… Pick Their Favourite Sports Moments of 2008

2008 was a big year for sport.

We watched Michael Phelps win eight gold medals in Beijing, Usain Bolt smile and dance his way to world records like some sort of superhuman, a Superbowl that gave us one of the biggest upsets of recent memory, the best Wimbledon final of all time (yeah, I said it!), and Spain win Euro.

Yes, this year definitely gave Ladies… lots to whine/gloat/gasp/talk about, but aren’t you curious…

What were our absolute favourite sports moments of 2008?

Hot Stove Hotties plus NFL timeout

Each week this Hot Stove season, we’ll look at some done deals and juicy rumors involving our favorite MLB hotties, and the occasional not-really-a-hottie, but still worth talking about.

Before we get to the Hot Stove, let’s take a moment to appreciate the piece of history the NFL  world bore witness to yesterday. Click on the picture for a very short, very apt summary of the Lions’ season.

Merry Christmas or other applicable happy day

If you don’t celebrate Christmas, don’t sweat it. You can still enjoy this post. If you do celebrate Christmas, have a merry one!

Earlier this year, our little site celebrated its 1000th post by highlighting each of our favorite hotties. Now, in the spirit of the holidays, it’s time for our hotties to give back. Do your eyeballs a favor and enjoy the Ladies…’ stocking stuffers after the jump.

Hot Stove Hotties: Because we don’t hear nearly enough about Mark Teixeira

Each week this Hot Stove season, we’ll look at some done deals and juicy rumors involving our favorite MLB hotties, and the occasional not-really-a-hottie, but still worth talking about.

Ugh. Can free agent first baseman Mark Teixeira just go away already? Seriously, this garbage has gone on ALL offseason. It’s ridiculous; the guy should just sign somewhere and get it over with. He has a great deal of talent, but I’m sick of typing all those E’s and I’s all the time, you know?

Yay, Im holding up the whole market!

Hot Stove Hotties

Kbai!

"Kbai!"

Each week this Hot Stove season, we’ll look at some done deals and juicy rumors involving our favorite MLB hotties, and the occasional not-really-a-hottie, but still worth talking about.

This was Winter Meetings week, and both New York teams made big moves. On Wednesday morning, the Yankees signed C.C. Sabathia to a seven-year deal that will bring him 37.5 million Baconators (or $161 million). Later, they signed free agent starter A.J. Burnett for five years/$82.5 million.

The Mets made a few moves to bolster their bullpen (Merry Christmas, Metsy!), including signing Francisco “K-Rod” Rodriguez for  $37 million over three years, with an option for a 4th year.

LOTS more moves (complete with diagrams!)…after the jump!

Hot Stove Hottie timeout: Farewell to Mad Dog

Normally at this time we’d be covering the things that went on in the MLB markets in the past week, but this week we’ll stand aside to tip our caps to one of the most brilliant pitchers our generation has seen or will ever see. Winter meetings are going on right now, and you can get all kinds of updates from MLB Trade Rumors, as well as great updates directly from Vegas from Will Carroll, John Perrotto, and Kevin Goldstein of Baseball Prospectus.

Now, on to the very sad business of Greg Maddux announcing his retirement today.

Hot (well, sort of lukewarm) Stove Hotties

Each week this Hot Stove season, we’ll look at some done deals and juicy rumors involving our favorite MLB hotties. If you want a comprehensive rundown of rumors, go to MLBTR. If you want the pretty, stay right here!

Lame! Nothing really happened in Hot Stoveland this week. The biggest story was actually one that didn’t happen – someone reported that the Giants signed Edgar Renteria, and it turned out to be untrue.

Edgar a Giant? Some people said so, but...No.

The Royals took the spotlight this week by trading for speedy center fielder Coco Crisp. Kansas City gave up Ramon “RamRam” Ramirez, a reliever who throws a “power change” (seriously) and had a great 2008 season. He also has a perfectly spherical face, which makes me smile every time. Here are Coco and RamRam in their new uniforms.

Things CC could buy with $140MM

Last week the New York Yankees offered free agent CC Sabathia a contract worth $140 million over six years. Sometimes when I hear about baseball contracts, it’s just a flurry of numbers: Millions and years, incentives and more millions. But this offer…yow. That’s a ton of money, Holmes.

If Sabathia accepts these boatloads of cash, what could he do with it all?

Matt Holliday was the big story this week, after getting traded to Oakland on Monday for hottie reliever Huston Street, outfielder Carlos Gonzalez, and LHP Greg Smith. More about this deal (including plenty of visual aids), and the other stories of the week after the jump.

But for now…Phillies covered in champagne!

As luck would have it, I get to be the person who puts together our 1,000 post — even though, as the newest Lady, I’ve probably accounted for the smallest share of those 1,000. I feel like I should be giving a little speech, but you don’t really want to hear (or read) a speech, do you? You want to see our overall number one hottie.

When we started this countdown, each Lady was pretty much given free reign to pick whoever she wanted for her individual list, as I’m sure you noticed. The one rule we agreed on was that the overall number one hottie would be someone who wasn’t on any of the individual lists. If we hadn’t had that rule, you would have seen this particular gentleman’s picture at least four times in the past two weeks. He is well-loved in this corner of the Internet.

And now, the moment you’ve all been waiting for, presenting the Ladies Ultimate Hottie ….

1000th Post Countdown: Personal Number ONE!

It's a pinata, because it's a celebration of hotness. Go ahead, take a whack (or something less suggestive!)

Here they are. Each Ladies… number 1 personal pick. Tomorrow will be our group overall, but these gentlemen are tops in each of our individual books. They are beautiful. They are sentimental. They are MEN. And we love them. We hope you do too!

Welcome to door number three. I promise you'll be happy you opened it.

Wow, so many days of hotties! The best part about all this, other than sharing my fave men with the world, is getting to see what my fellow Ladies… are into. I must admit, I’ve been introduced to quite a few cuties I didn’t know before! So here are the Ladies… picks for their number 3 perfect 10. Please enjoy!

1000th Post Countdown… Connect Four!

We’re into the Ladies… top 4 perfect 10s and we’ve got some bona fide hotties today.

Hello thighs!

Hello thighs!

Mistress Christina
Fernando Torres
– He is so stinking pretty. He recently cut his hair, which is clearly news because his hair is one of his best features. I would also count his freckles, his thighs, his abs and his smile among my other faves. He’s currently injured and has to sit out for another few weeks due to a hamstring injury. (Nando, if you need someone to massage the afflicted area, PLEASE feel free to give me a call…)  Some people can’t get on board the Nando-train because of his adorable baby-face. Something about looking too young… well I don’t mind them a little young, and the fact that he’s actually older than me (he’ll be 25 in March) should help to quell some of those pedophile fears.

1000th Post Countdown…Number Five, Number Five

If our favorite athletes were made up of a scent what would it be? I once told someone (and she agreed) that one of my absolute favs (who’ll come later on this list) probably smells like roses and lilacs. I would like to think that they would smell as good as Chanel No. 5, only 10x better. Oh, and the fragrance would be for women, obviously. Yep. Because who likes musky scents for men? Nobody. So yeah, hot athletes smell like all the greatest perfumes out there. And none of that sweaty mess after they actually play their sport.

I can dream right? And I’m all over the place. But whatevs. Our fifth hottest men are after the jump.
