What I Think About While Trying Not To Think About the 6 Run 9th Inning Lead The Cardinals Just Blew That Will Likely Cost Them The Wild Card

(Subtitle: Probably I’m Overreacting, Since They’ve Certainly Blown Plenty of Other Games This Season, And Anyway If They Make The Playoffs We’ll Never Get Rid of La Russa and AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH.)

  • That the AL Wildcard has suddenly gotten triply interesting.
  • That Jeffrey Loria used to own a team with an iconic “M” logo and still thought this was a good idea.
  • That somehow, all you have to do is become a Bengal to act like a Bengal. (Yes, that’s two different stories.)
  • That safeties are awesome.  And even more awesome when it’s a rookie’s first NFL sack (h/t TheJetsBlog)

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go stare at Rafa in his underwear. I find it clears the mind.

  1. I am torn about this Cards post-season business. As a Brewers fan, I’m pretty against you all doing anything good. And I hate Tony LaRussa. So that’s reason enough to root against you. But you’re also hot and the Braves are not. I know we couldn’t face the Cards in the NLDS and I guess I’d like your chances of beating the Phillies in the first round, but I think I’d rather play the slumping Braves. Additionally, I don’t want to play you in the postseason. The regular season between these two clubs was chippy enough – it would be so much worse if they met in the NLCS. There’s no way that off-field crap doesn’t cloud the series and that would make me so mad/sad.

    • Yeah, I’m actually somewhat torn myself, just because I really think we’ve reached the point where La Russa’s quirks are hurting us more than helping and if we make the playoffs there’s no way management gets rid of him. Though you have more faith in us in the playoffs than I do — I’m fully expecting a repeat of two years ago when we got swept in the first round.
