The Celtics took out their recent frustrations by winning their 3rd in a row, beating the poor Nets, 118-86. Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett combined for 42 points, while Devin Harris led the Nets in scoring, with 17 points.
Chris Paul outplayed pretty much all the Mavericks, putting up 33 points, 11 assists, 10 rebounds and 7 steals, nabbing his 4th triple-double of the season. During half-time, he built a house for Habitat for Humanity. The Hornets beat the Mavericks, 104-97, in their first regular season victory over Dallas in almost 11 years (since 1.24.98).
The Spurs beat the Lakers at the buzzer, 112-111, when Roger Mason made a free throw with less than 10 seconds left. Kobe Bryant had 29 points for the Lakers and Tim Duncan scored 20 points for the Spurs.
Over in the NHL, the Ottawa Senators defeated the Atlanta Thrashers, 3-2, with Jason Spezza and Daniel Alfredsson each scoring a goal. The game-winning goal was scored by Dean McAmmond in the second period, and that was that.
Meanwhile, the Pens’ golden boys, Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, couldn’t stop the onslaught of Alexander Ovechkin, who had 2 goals and 1 assist. Malkin had 1 goal and Crosby had 2 assists in the 6-3 loss. Crosby left the game late, after a collision with David Steckel, but he didn’t think the injury was severe.
Finally, Johan Santana is unsure if he’ll play for Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic this spring. He had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in October, and does not know if he would be ready for the March games. I will personally drive to his house, and massage his knee twice a day. If only he’d tell me where he lives.
