It’s time once again to check in on the races for the basements of Major League Baseball. Where these teams finish dictates how close to #1 they get to draft next June…so this one matters!
AL East:
While national attention is focused on who will finish at the top of this division, well…this one’s pretty easy. Baltimore has long since locked up last place. We should commemorate that, with some gratuitous Nick Markakis.

Let them eat Markakis! (what?)
The rest of the ML is after the jump:
AL Central:
So, funny thing about the Central and the Royals: the latter might not end up in the basement of the former. There’s only 3.5 games’ difference between the currently-last-place (but hot!) Royals and the hugely-disappointing Tigers, and the two teams play each other next week. So either team could occupy the cellar by the end of next week.

Home run machine (and super-cool guy) Ryan Shealy and RoY candidate Mike Aviles have been a huge help in the Royals' recent surge.

While the Royals have been SMOKING HOT this month, Matt Joyce and his team have only won 5 September games
AL West
NO mystery here. The Mariners are toast, and they don’t have any hotties for me to give you, so we’ll just move on.
NL East
Too easy. The Nationals are 9 games behind the 4th-place Braves. Damn, I should have picked a harder post.

Are there any hottie Nationals? Anyway, here's Alberto Gonzalez.
NL Central
It seems pretty clear that the Pirates will indeed finish last, but they’re still worth keeping an eye on as we get to the (sniffle) end of the season – Pittsburgh will play Houston and Milwuakee, who are both trying to make late pushes for the NL Wild Card, next week.

Ryan Doumit: "Aaarrrrr! I'm a Pirate!"
NL West
Sucky suckitude of the village of Suckelton. I really, really hate this division, and San Diego has managed to nestle istelf firmly at the bottom of the bottom. The first-place Dodgers will get a chance to extend their divisional lead next week with a three-gamer against this here bunch of Padres.

Dear Jake Peavy, your team is kind of bad. Sorry dude.
As always, the MLB standings can be found here, and have a happy Thursday!
Aw, Ichiro is a hottie! :)
Royals game today was awesome & so was skipping work to go!
I second KCMichelle: Ichiro is hot.
Shealey’s ass is fine.
And I think Ryan Zimmerman is cute.
Michelle- you were there??? I missed it completely because i was in class. LAME.
Metsy- I’ll tell Shealy you said that. And I agree completely. He is a MOUNTAIN of a man (6’5″ 250 or so). And agreed on Zimm. I should have thought of that!

Wow I didn’t realize the Tigers had gone in such a swoon. And I, too, think Ichiro is hot. And Adrian Beltre isn’t bad either, though I guess he’s out now.
I wonder if there’s a correlation between the number of hotties on a team and their win-loss record?
There is no such thing as gratuitous Nick Markakis. I’d hit that so hard he’d bounce.
