Hit & Run: Aw, Crap.

Lest I be accused of sweeping it under the carpet, I’ll lead with the Mets’ 7-5 loss to the Marlins. Le sigh. Couple that with the Phillies’ victory over the Nationals, that means that the Phillies are now back in 1st place, 1/2 a game ahead of the Mets. Josh Johnson pitched well for the Marlins, while Mike Pelfrey did not pitch well for the Mets, and there you have it.

Meanwhile, Chase Utley and Shane Victorino homered in support of Ole Man (Jamie) Moyer of the Phillies. They beat the Nationals by the score of 8-5. That’s their 4th victory in a row. (Lose today, lose today!) An aside: I was watching the Phillies/Nats game, and Baby Mets caught it on TV, and says, “Look – like Phanatic!” My three-year-old is smarter than your three-year-old.

Will they, won’t they? Will anyone care? I’m talking about Manny and the Red Sox. At this point, I kinda wish that the Sox would lose him. What a whiny little bitch. “Oh, noes! You’ve paid me $168 MM these past 8 years, where we’ve won the World Series, and had my ass kissed by every body in Boston! I want out!” Bah! Anyways, the Angels continued their domination of the Red Sox, sweeping them for the second time in a row.

In his Angels debut, Mark Teixeira went 0-4. Well, the Angels do claim that they got him for October…

The White Sox hold off the Twins, at least for one more night, with their 8-3 victory over Minnesota. Gavin Floyd pitched 7 2/3 innings of one-run ball, and Carlos Quentin went 3 for 5, with a HR and 4 RBI. (Points for my fantasy team – Floyd’s on it.)

The Cubs swept beat (there’s still a game today!) the Brewers, to widen their lead to 4 games over the 2nd place Brew Crew. Ryan Dempster got the win, going 7 innings and allowing 1 run. Alfonso Soriano went 3 for 4, with 2 walks, and Prince Fielder went 2 for 3, with a HR.

The Tigers/Indians game went 13 innings, and the Tigers won it 14-12. The Indians let two separate 4-run leads (and those were the smaller leads they held during the game!) disappear before surrendering two runs in the top of the 13th. And I can’t find any pictures, so I’ll update it in the morning!

  1. Is it bad that I’ll be glued to my TV/computer for every minute of trade coverage? I’m worried that some team will steal one of MY guys!

Hang in there, Mets! Not that I’m a Mets fan in ANY way, but for Metschick’s sake…I can pretend :)

  2. Metschick…I almost forgot, but that was really awesome that Brandon Knight got to pitch for the Mets this year. I’m a Somerset Patriots fan, and it’s cool to see the boys get to the big leagues, even if it’s only for a game!
