Back Where It Belongs
The NCAA Wrestling banner is back in Iowa City. This past weekend the other NCAA tournament was going on in St. Louis and my boys dominated their way right to a title. Iowa finished with a team score of 117.5; the next closest was 79 points. We also came away with 7 All-Americans, the most we’ve had since 2001. Joey Slaton, Jay Borschel, Matt Fields, Charlie Falck and Phillip Keddy all finished 6th or better and Brent Metcalf and Mark Perry won their weight classes. It was Metcalf’s first national title and Perry’s second.
Congrats Iowa!

Mmm, Metcalf. I’d like to meet his calves…or something…

My god, he’s like He-Man.

It’s like Perry is showing off his butt just for me.

Winner!

Congratulations, Andie - I was definitely thinking of you as all the boys were gathered on the stage around Dan Gable. It was a great moment for any Iowa and/or wrestling fan. And yes-those boys, and their coaches, are adorable.

One interesting stat from the tourney–the team points earned by Mark Perry alone would have placed him 21st as a team among the 74 schools there.
