Hit & Run: Bye-bye, Torre?

Sad panda

Is this the end for Joe Torre? Told that his job was on the line by The Boss, George Steinbrenner, Torre’s team won on Sunday. But yesterday, the house of cards came tumbling down, and the Cleveland Indians beat the Yankees 6-4. Chien-Ming Wang pitched one inning plus, and the Indians were in command from the first inning on. Grady Sizemore led off the game with a homerun, and the Indians never surrendered the lead. Paul Byrd pitched well for the Indians, going 5 innings and giving up only 2 runs. The Indians bullpen also gave up another 2 runs, but the offense had put up 6 runs, and that was good enough against a Yankee offense that, aside from Game 3, never really got it going against the Indians’ pitching. Sorry to Rob I., James, Sportsgirl365, Becky, Nelson, and all the rest of Yankee fans who were nice to me last week. To the rest of you – suck it! Your tears are delicious.

More pics of the game and celebration after the jump.

This pic is kinda dirty. Not that there’s anything wrong with that…

Over in the NFL, the Cowboys pulled a victory out of the jaws of defeat, capped off by a Nick Folk field goal. Tony Romo had a ton of interceptions (Tony, stop it – you’re not Mike Teel!), but the ‘Boys were able to win it in the end. You gotta feel for the Bills.

The Celtics’ Kevin Garnett will play his old team, the Timberwolves, on Wednesday in a preseason game in London. I want to go to London, but no one wants to take me.

The Maple Leafs’ Jason Blake has been diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia. He has already begun treatment, and expect to play with the Leafs. Get better soon, Jason.

  1. After the post-game interview with Grady Sizemore (yum!), TBS cut to some footage of the locker room celebration (yum!). I don’t know who it was, but one player took a huge swig of champagne, and then made the most disgusted face I’ve ever seen. Kind of like… if you’ve ever seen a young kid take their first taste of alcohol, and they try so hard to look like they like the taste, but can’t help looking totally grossed out. That was what I saw in this Indians player. It amused me.

  2. I, personally, think Grady looks kind of like a fish.

But hooray for the Windians! Well, they’re only Windians until Friday, anyway.

HAHA YEAH. And then I sat up (I had been lying on the couch) and yelled, “YOU’RE NOT SUPPOSED TO DRINK THAT, IT’S PROBABLY SWILL!!”

  4. chasevidwrightley,
    2 things:
    1) Your name makes me smile, and
    2) It would make me sad if they bought the finest champagne for these celebrations — that could have gone in my belly instead! — but I’m sure they probably do anyway. Good champagne is for me to drink, cheap stuff is to spray your teammates with in a festive manner.

I’m glad the Indians didn’t wear goggles for their celebration. Safety, schmafety…the goggles just aren’t hot.
