Hit and Run – Wednesday, July 24 – First day of the rest of our lives

You have to certainly say this about Mr. Forearms Craig Biggio, he certainly knows how to go out on top.

Just hours after a tearful press conference announcing that this will be his last season playing baseball, he hit a grand slam in the bottom 6th inning to give the Astros a 7-4 victory over the Dodgers.

I’d be lying to say the last of the original Killer B’s retiring doesn’t make me feel old.  If I was an Astro fan, I’d be crying in my pillow tonight, especially when you look at the rest of the NL Central and you see far down in the hole they have fallen.

And speaking of retirement… Yes, I have the reputation of being the one Lady who loves, loves, loves Randy Johnson. Fun Sheriff over at Lion in Oil seems to think that The Big Unit is on his way out, which makes me feel older and sadder than the Biggio news.

Since these things tend to happen in threes, I guess this is good time to mention that Curtis Martin is expected to officially announce his retirement this week. This has been pretty much a done deal for the past few months, but worth mentioning since Martin was not only a great player, he is certainly as cute as a button.  But bigger, and if buttons came covered with muscles.  When I did a GIS for a hot picture of Martin, the best one was in this Deadspin post from last October talking about, funny enough, Martin’s retirement. You can pretty much just take my first comment from there and paste it here since I still feel the same.

Could there be a worse screencap of sports news right now? Really? Thank god Google News only gives me three leads, because I am sure the fourth story below the fold is about how the NHL is faltering due to global warming and that Karl Malone needs the ice for his next bear hunt. (For the record, I am not against hunting. Please, no angry emails.)

And finally, I am very happy to note that I think the “My coach is hotter than your coach!” tag is going to get as much as workout as the players are this pre-season.  Check out this fashion report on Coach Tomlin from the start of Steelers training camp in the Post-Gazette:

Tomlin dressed all in black, at least yesterday — long pants, long shirt, sunglasses, black baseball cap. He also wears his dorm room key on a string around his neck, just like everyone else.

Hot. So very, very, hot.

(Editor’s personal note to her Mother, since she seems to commenting on an older post in the middle of the night tonight - Mom, bringing up grandkids is a sure fire way not to have any, especially when mentioned in the same breath as Darfur, the Pirates, and the Democrats’ chances in ’08, which really sounds like a Carson routine now that I think about it. Anyway, I need to soften you up some for some news, and since I’ve been putting off telling you this… well. I’m not having grandkids any time soon. Well, at least not with TSB.

Now if everyone would excuse me, I need to change my cell number, my home number, TSB’s cell number, and quite possibly both of our office numbers in the next twenty-four hours. If anyone needs us, we’ve both joined the witness protection program. )

  1. Carson: *rips open envelope from the side; blows into it*
Carson: The Democrats’ chances in ’08, Darfur, and the Pittsburgh Pirates…
    McMahon: Yes!
    Carson: *glares at Ed*
    McMahon: Ha HA.
Carson: *pulls out notecard; gives it a good shake*
Carson: Attempted suicide, genocide, and the losing side.

    (I’m old, too.)

  2. This however, leaves the chance that TSW will mate with some total stud monster and produce a race of super giants with mad athletic skills and IQs hitting 200.

Where am I? I feel wet. Down there.
